PRIMARY PURPOSE:Perform specialized work in the operation and routine maintenance of equipment, machinery, vehicles and outdoor areas of the City.SUPERVISION:Under direct supervision of a department superintendent, supervisor, lead or senior operator.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Performs general labor duties as assigned. Such duties may include mowing, brush/tree removal, ice/snow removal, digging, trenching, hauling, cleaning and other miscellaneous work assignments.2. Performs routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, machinery and vehicles.3. Performs specialized tasks relating to the operation and routine maintenance of operating systems.4. Performs a variety of repairs on motors, pumps, conveyors, generators, engines, air compressors, aerators, mixers, screening devices, pneumatic and electronic instrumentation, valves, flow meters, control devices, chemical feed equipment and all equipment associated with City facilities.5. Performs basic electrical and plumbing work.6. Collects readings and samples as required.7. Required 24/7 on-call at least two weeks per month. Compensated in addition to regular pay.8. Observe all applicable safety rules and report unsafe conditions or potential safety hazards.9. Operates vehicles for the purpose of transporting material to be moved or disposed of from City property.10. Keeps records and logs as required.11. Working knowledge of modern office procedures and equipment.12. Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the general public.13. Attends in-service training sessions or other training sessions as deemed appropriate by the supervisor and superintendent.14. Perform various duties as assigned. Such as, ice and snow removal and grass mowing etc.15. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS:1. Attend seminars, workshops, and other training for professional development purposes.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Any combination of education, training, and experience providing the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:Knowledge: Must have basic knowledge of principles, procedures, and methods involved in operating and maintaining equipment and machinery.Or the ability to learnabout the procedures, methods, and operation of equipment and machinery.Abilities: Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates and the general public.Experience, Education, Training: Must be a High School Graduate or Equivalent.Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, crawl, kneel, twist, stoop, and climb for extended periods of time; ability to pull, push, lift and/or carry objects up to 80 lbs.; ability to use and/or operated hand-held and motorized tools or machinery. Ability to hear standard equipment alarms (buzzers, beepers, etc.).Working Environment: Ability to perform work out-of-doors in all weather conditions. Ability to work in confined spaces.
