Reporting to the DEI Manager, the Specialist will carry out a broad array of projects, but the primary focus will be in two areas: creating and facilitating DEI trainings and heading up a variety of creative DEI communications initiatives.

This is a full-time, salaried position. In-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday although there may be times when we shift days around to accommodate training and consulting for other teams.

Please upload a cover letter explaining your interest in the position and describing how your previous professional experience in facilitating DEI trainings and coordinating communications projects has prepared you for this role. We will not consider applications that do not have a cover letter attached.

DEI Training and Facilitation

  • The DEI team creates trainings on a wide range of DEI topics and delivers these to employees across the company both virtually and in-person.

  • Specialist will assist in the delivery of these trainings, so we are seeking a skilled, confident, and experienced facilitator who possesses deep knowledge of a variety of DEI subjects including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, veteran inclusion, intersectionality, social justice, psychological safety, and more. It's not enough to only know about the communities to which you belong; the DEI Specialist has a natural curiosity about others, is motivated to broaden their knowledge, and knows how to increase their cultural competency.

  • There may be opportunities to help develop DEI trainings and learning tools too, so experience in curriculum design for adult learners is a plus.

Communications

  • Approximately 60% of this role will involve heading up Georgia Power's internal DEI communications projects. The Specialist will design and write our monthly company-wide DEI newsletter - so the successful candidate will have excellent writing skills and be able to convey news and employees' stories in a clear, compelling way.

  • This role also involves maintaining our DEI intranet site and creating and formatting our quarterly DEI Toolboxes which include visually appealing, clear, concise training materials for our managers to use.

  • The Specialist will also support a new storytelling project, making and editing videos for internal use and creating accompanying discussion guides. Knowledge of accessibility in design and communications is desirable.

Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience working in diversity, equity, inclusion, or social justice in the non-profit, corporate, government, NGO, or higher education sectors.

  • Bachelor's Degree in humanities, social sciences, communications, or other liberal arts field is required.

Job Requirements

  • Outstanding written communication skills with a track record of experience writing for a professional audience. Experience writing newsletter and website content is highly desirable.

  • Experience using Canva to create flyers, posters, and web graphics is preferred.

  • Highly proficient in using creative and accessible design principles to create engaging PowerPoint presentations and other visual aids.

  • Strong presentation and training skills; ability to convey complex topics in a relatable, sensitive, persuasive, and clear manner to audiences with varying levels of familiarity and comfort with DEI topics.

  • Experience with creating trainings and workshops as well as knowledge of how to devise learning outcomes and evaluation methods are highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice concepts including intersectionality, systems of oppression, and implicit bias.

  • Strong cultural competency in multiple areas of diversity and inclusion including race, gender identity and expression, disability, religion, sexual orientation, military affiliation, generational diversity, and other identity categories.

  • Ability to build relationships and be influential across all levels of an organization.

  • Be reliable, punctual, and organized with the ability to manage multiple projects.

  • Proficient in Word, Teams, Excel, SharePoint, and other MS Office tools.

  • Experience creating and editing videos is desirable.

  • Ability to travel around the state of Georgia during normal business hours with occasional overnight trips is essential. Some overnight trips may include travel to our colleagues at other offices in the southeast.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain DEI intranet site by developing, writing, and collating fresh, creative, and relevant content.

  • Partner with the corporate communications team to ensure that DEI news is shared in an accurate, timely manner, and that DEI messaging is relevant, engaging, and consistent.

  • Design and edit presentations, webinars, handouts, and other tools to ensure they are engaging, accessible, and in line with the DEI brand.

  • Create and edit short, simple videos for the DEI storytelling project.
