The Role: Xylem seeks to hire a Senior Systems Engineer to join the data center operations team. As a member of the data center operations team, you will have support responsibilities for operational software, servers and infrastructure in our Private Cloud Data Centers, focusing on storage technologies but also have responsibilities in other technology areas as well. You will work with a team of highly skilled Engineers, with an emphasis on storage, backups, disaster recovery, Windows operating systems and VMware technologies. Ideal candidates will have a positive attitude, passion for technology, and system support skills.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Participate and at times, lead in infrastructure upgrades, deployments and troubleshooting for storage technologies utilized by backups, disaster recovery, monitoring, and virtualization technologies in our private cloud data centers.

  • Support and maintain storage related tools used by the team including the management of access, integrations and upgrades.

  • Apply revisions to host system firmware and software and work with vendors to support related activities.

  • Collaborate closely with peers on critical infrastructure including but not limited to data protection, backup processes, network, compute and virtualization.

  • Participate in disaster recovery drills as needed to test and maintain appropriate service levels.

  • Provide guidance and implement standards to efficiently manage solutions for a complex, multi-data center environment where stability, performance and recovery times are critical.

  • Work closely with security operations to maintain proper security posture.

  • Travel periodically to work in private cloud data centers

  • Participate in on call rotation.

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent work experience.

  • 7+ years in an operational support environment supporting enterprise-grade applications and infrastructure.

  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise storage, SAN and Cisco UCS environments, designing, implementing and troubleshooting storage technologies with production workloads.

  • 5+ years of experience supporting VMware environments deployed to multiple data centers is required.

  • 2+ years of experience using (and administrating) enterprise monitoring tools is required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Experience using common Microsoft Office tools to review, create and update reports

  • Potential travel (US and Canada) up to 15%.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage work with little guidance.

Preferred Experience:

  • Industry-specific certifications are preferred. Examples include but not limited to Microsoft, VMware and NetApp.

  • Experience with NetApp SnapMirror, deduplication, compression, SnapCenter, Cloud Insights and ONTAP is highly preferred.

  • Experience supporting environments that utilize backup and disaster recovery solutions such as Cohesity, Veeam and Zerto is preferred.

  • Experience with configuration tools such as Ansible or Terraform is preferred.

  • Experience with monitoring tools Datadog, Nagios, or a similar tool is preferred.

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or similar technologies in a production environment is preferred.
