JOB PURPOSE:

Assists in the development of detailed system specifications for major business systems or technical support and/or development, integration and implementation projects. Applies systems solutions to business/technical problems through customer interactions, design, programming, debugging, testing, and integration/implementation of automated information technology systems and components.

JOB DUTIES:

This position reports to an IT Supervisor, Senior IT Supervisor or IT Manager, as do other staff jobs in application and technical systems and programming sections. Responsibilities of the incumbents are within functional lines with individuals assigned development and/or maintenance of existing mainframe, personal computer, server, Local Area or Wide Area Network, WEB, and/or distributed computing systems and infrastructure.

  • Competent to perform all programming, development, and integration assignments without close supervision;

  • Provides project management, programming, systems leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members;

  • Works on more complex application/technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls;

  • Works independently on complex processes and modules that may be used by one or more programs or systems;

  • Develops major system modules or programs based on requirements gathered from system customers;

  • Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of system components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results;

  • Fully knowledgeable of programming languages appropriate to the platform supported, program design and specification development, programming logic, logic diagrams, system analysis techniques, testing, debugging, documentation standards, file design, storage and internal systems;

  • Performs integration tasks for in-house developed systems and/or purchased hardware and software solutions;

  • Assists customers with documentation, training and usability efforts.

  • Typically serves as a team member on one or more 6 Sigma projects.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

Requires a relevant degree, technical certification or equivalent experience.

The incumbent should be knowledgeable of the appropriate programming languages; computing hardware and software; and current development processes and tools.

Three to six years in systems development or support work is common. In addition, the incumbent should have a good knowledge of Caterpillar policies and procedures, and a general understanding of Caterpillar's organization.

This position serves as part of EPLM environment infrastructure team.

  • In this role, the candidate will work directly with Enterprise PLM technical and process resources to develop, deploy, and support Caterpillar's Enterprise PLM environments (Dev/SIT/UAT).

  • This candidate will serve as a general technology subject matter expert and design, create, implement, and support environments across the ePLM operational landscape.

  • This position will support agile product development and digital thread activities.

  • The successful candidate must demonstrate a high degree of technical knowledge, intellectual curiosity, a drive to solve complex problems, strong working knowledge of integration or Cloud-centric technology, a high degree of initiative and the willingness to consistently produce and deliver high quality deliverables.

  • Candidate must have excellent communication

  • skills in both the verbal and written dimensions.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience

  • 2-4 years of IT experience (application development/support and/or infrastructure support)

  • Strong application troubleshooting skills

  • 1-2 years' experience working with relational databases

  • 1-2 years' experience Windows Server Administration

  • High degree of problem-solving ability coupled with solid communication skills

  • Strong customer focus

  • Strong Desire / ability to learn in complex and evolving environment

  • Results-oriented time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Prior server administration experience and understanding of Infrastructure concepts

  • Prior experience with AWS cloud technology enablement

  • Experience with installation and configuration of Teamcenter

  • 1-2 Years Oracle database Experience

  • 1-2 Years Scripting (Perl, Java) Experience

  • Software design and engineering experience

  • Strong documentation skills

Desired Education Requirements:

  • 4 Year Computer-Related or Business Process degree
