Overview

Establish, develop and lead a credit risk oversight function (second line of defense) within Navy Federal's Enterprise Risk division. Plan, design, implement and oversee appropriate frameworks, methodologies, procedures and documentation related to the independent oversight function of NFCU's lending activities and other areas of credit exposure to ensure effective identification, measurement, monitoring and reporting of enterprise-wide credit risk. Be a strategic business partner to other senior business leaders across all three lines of defense to effectively influence business behaviors and risk culture, highlighting issues and promoting strategic efforts. Promote operational efficiency and service excellence through process improvements and training. Responsibilities

- Assume responsibility/accountability for the leadership, direction, and management of the second line Credit Risk Management function

- Provide recommendations to the CRO and executive leadership regarding the Credit Risk Management division framework and related strategies

- Establish and oversee short- and long-term strategy and goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness and implementing changes as needed

- Apply advanced analytical techniques to identify, assess, quantify, and monitor credit risk

- Conduct oversight and effective challenge in credit risk areas including credit policies, 1st line credit risk controls, portfolio asset quality, asset mix, credit risk metrics, etc.

- Conduct independent analysis, review and effective challenge of first line credit risk management activities including

- Identify credit related trends, and assessing the impact of changing macroeconomic scenarios and other events (including evolution of NFCU member behavior) on NFCU membership and generating thoughtful and expert recommendations

- Drive change and learning by embracing new, flexible, and agile approaches to improve business performance and efficiency

- Partner with other senior leaders and stakeholders to deliver sound credit risk management strategies and insights

- Establish credibility throughout Navy Federal, and with executive peers, as a credit risk subject matter expert

- Provide positive leadership to the division through teaching, training, employee engagement, succession planning, and mentorship programs

- Collaborate with peer risk divisions to ensure that decisions enhance and support Enterprise Risk's overall objective

- Oversee and manage the design, development and implementation of regular reporting and testing of key internal controls, systems, policies and procedures Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

- Extensive experience in building, leading and/or managing a credit risk, analytics, or financial risk management operation, preferably in a large financial institution

- Expert knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations including specific knowledge of the regulatory environment and relevant regulations impacting large financial organizations

- Extensive knowledge of underwriting/credit risk processes and interactions between consumer behaviors and macroeconomic environment

- Extensive experience in implementing strategic initiatives to support organizational objectives

- Expert knowledge of data querying, reporting, forecasting, analysis and operations research, including statistical methods and modeling

- Expert knowledge of methodologies used to measure, model and simulate credit risk, operational risk, regulatory risk and risk exposure in relevant lending product types

- Expert skill interpreting and synthesizing large amounts of information

- Expert skill influencing and building consensus with business partners, and leading with diplomacy and tact while maintaining appropriate assertiveness and persistence.

- Expert skill in being adaptive/flexible and acquiring, recognizing & applying new information

- Expert verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills

- Ability to lead the function with transparency and instill trust, quickly prioritizes and focuses the function on the most critical issues, while engaging fully with the first line of business; a strategic mindset that drives vision and results

- Extensive experience in demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative taking, decision-making and creativity in solving business problems

- Extensive experience in driving change management and influencing organizational culture and values

- Extensive experience in managing cross-functional, multi-dimensional teams and complex projects which impact business risk

- Extensive experience in supervising and leading professional employees

Desired

- Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience

- Data visualization skills such as Tableau

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
