The PMS450 VIRGINIA Class Program Office is responsible for the acquisition and design of the world's premier fast attack submarine and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E) and Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E) of the attack submarine. The Attack Submarine will be designed to retain multi-mission capability and sustained combat presence in denied waters with a focus on greater speed, stealth, and horizontal payloads and salvo rates.
Serco-NA has an opening for an Acoustics Engineer to support an active contract with the U.S. Navy in the Washington, DC area. You will be supporting the Acoustics Branch within PMS450. The Acoustics Branch has oversight of every aspect of the construction of the VACL submarines.
You will gain an in-depth knowledge of how every aspect of the VACL submarine, the engines, the screws, the design, all affect the acoustic signature of the VACL submarine and how to minimize the acoustic signature to increase survivability of the submarine.
You will gain knowledge of Acquisition processes involved in launching a new VACL submarine, including the various milestones required during the engineering phase through production.
Acoustic engineers rely on their ability to recognize and manipulate how sound moves. A successful acoustic engineer uses this ability to solve client problems with noise control or sound quality.
You may have the opportunity to visit a maintenance facility and submarine base, based on availability of those facilities.
You will assist in generating acquisition documentation for milestone reviews.
You will assist in performing technical planning, cost, schedule, risk, supportability, and effectiveness analysis for total systems; analyses performed at concept, design, test, evaluation, and operational phases.
You will gain knowledge of DoD acquisition policies, NAVSEASYSCOM policies and procedures, and Congressional authorization and appropriations process
You must have a Secret clearance or eligible for
a clearance to be considered.
In this role, you will:
Support PMS450 evaluation of proposed designs and arrangements.
Identify technical issues that need resolution in their particular area. Work with applicable SITs to facilitate resolution of technical issues. Facilitate timely decisions and review and adjudication of all design products and written correspondence.
Act as a liaison with other PMS450 team members and NAVSEA05 Technical Warrant Holders (TWH).
Will be a primary customer contact for all activities, regularly meeting with and updating the customer on project status.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with the program manager, deputy program manager and/or technical lead.
Lead program review sessions with customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
Provide acquisition management planning and execution support
Leading technical discussions for project reviews, including preparing and delivering formal briefings.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A current or active DoD Secret security clearance, or the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
A Bachelor's degree in any engineering, math, physics, technical or even musical discipline.
Five to seven years' experience.
The ability to travel at least 10% of the time.
Additional desired experience and skills:
A Master's degree.
Active-duty experience in the submarine service.
Some experience with Navy acquisition and/or In-Service Programs.
Recent experience in Team Submarine would be ideal.
Have a sense of curiosity.
Have an ability to work an assigned task in accordance with SOP's or specifications independently without direction.
Work well within a team.
Have an attitude for accountability and responsibility.
Be diligent and accurate in recording of hours worked.
Work outside of recognized working hours to fulfill a task.
Recognize that initially there is significant amounts of classified material to be absorbed prior to independent working of tasks.
Be attentive to details or is detail orientated.
Be comfortable working within all regimes of engineering disciplines (ship architecture, electrical, electronics, piping, structures, and HVAC engineering).
Have experience in working with 2D engineering drawings.
Be well versed with computers and software.
Be able to laugh.
Have excellent technical writing skills.
Be comfortable with ladders, and small spaces aboard a ship.

In compliance with the District of Columbia's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is 91,701.62 to 152,836.04; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
