    Helena School District #1 is accepting applications for a full-time Day Custodian opening at Kessler Elementary School. Hours of employment are normally 7:00 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Duties include but are not limited to: cleaning and preserving designated areas in the school and assisting with seasonal grounds work. Qualifications include: high school diploma or equivalent; 1 to 3 months experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the district. A Montana Low Pressure Boilers License is required for this position and must be obtained within six (6) months of employment date. Current entry level salary is $16.48 per hour without in-district experience and includes a comprehensive benefit package. The Helena Public Schools are an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.

Helena Public Schools Position Description

Job Title: Day Shift Building Maintenance Department: Maintenance Reports To: Building Administrator and/or Custodial Supervisor Prepared Date: Spring 2020

SUMMARY: Keeps the district's buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assists in maintaining seasonal grounds work (snow, lawn) etc. Cleans and preserves designated spaces, equipment etc. in the building. Maintains inventory of custodial/maintenance supplies and equipment. Restocks disposable items and provides custodial supervisor with inventory usage and data. Performs ongoing preventative maintenance and minor repair on plumbing, custodial equipment, building structure and hardware. Performs minor electrical maintenance and repairs. Performs light maintenance as needed. Performs normal operator adjustments and service to facility equipment, such as but not limited to: compressors; boilers; unit ventilators and fans; and maintains records on operational and maintenance activities. Assists the visiting public utilizing school facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment and/or materials. Maintains building and grounds security by opening the building each school day and during special events, if needed. Maintains work related records and prepares various reports as directed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the District.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups or employees of the District.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: State of Montana Class 1 Low Pressure Boilers License is required for this position and/or must be obtained within six (6) months of start date.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as bulk furniture. The employees will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will regularly work near or with moving mechanical parts and equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
