Meet HII's Newport News Shipbuilding

With more than 25,000 employees - including third-, fourth- and even fifth-generation shipbuilders - HII's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia. We're the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. Our diverse and innovative team of professionals ranges from skilled trades to project managers, engineers and software developers to solution architects, technical subject matter experts, and system users. Anchored in our rich, 135-year history, we collaborate together at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of the most powerful and survivable naval ships in the world. Want to be part of the team? Apply today! We look forward to meeting you.

The Role

Supervises employees who test and/or inspect products to determine compliance with specifications.

Must Have

Apprentice graduate, Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and 6 years of applicable technical experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. A minimum of 2 years as a Supervisor Test Inspection 1 or equivalent position plus a minimum of 8 years related non-exempt experience can be substituted for a Bachelor's degree and experience.

E37 NDT Engineering has added ten new VT and MT/PT examiner positions as a result of ongoing inspection non-compliances and NAVSEA audit findings. With the limited number of examiners today virtually no deck plate re-inspections were being performed while O38 has added a significant number of new inspectors. The group is currently managed by one individual. This group has grown to more than 20 examiners. In order to manage the examiners the group is being divided into two different groups, one for VT and one for MT/PT. Each group would be managed by Test Inspection Manager 2s. The lack of deck plate oversight has resulted in 1000s of hours of rework. In order to mitigate the impact of the NDE recoveries the frequency of reinspections on the deck plate will increase. The position will be providing cognizance over the entire VT, PT and PT inspection programs.

Nice to Have

The candidate should have a minimum of 6 years of hands on experience as an NDT examiner in MT/PT or VT.

The candidate should currently qualified in at least one NDT method such as MT, or PT per the requirements of ASTM SNT-TC1A.

The candidate should have experience writing NDT procedures, qualifying and testing Inspectors, performing NDT audits, performing technical performance evaluations and re-inspections supporting NuVal shipbuilding.

The candidate should have experience training and testing new NDT examiners/Level III inspectors.

The candidate should have had prior experience for all aspects of a NDE program for either MT/PT or VT methods.
