Job Description

What We're Looking For

Works with professional staff in scheduling work and assigning support staff to their projects. Responsible for the training and development of staff. Assists engineer in outlining objectives, requirements and design approaches. Performs routine and complex engineering calculations. Leads production teams in delivering of plans to client requirements. Proficient in CADD design software such as Microstation v8i SS4 or later, Connect OpenBridge Modeler, Connect OpenRoads Designer, Connect OpenBridge Designer.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Working with project teams to meet client expectations in respect to deadlines, budgets and plan quality

  • Developing plans for multiple clients to varying requirements

  • Assisting in developing junior technician staff

  • Providing input on project scheduling, scoping and budgeting

  • Evaluating and documenting processes for new software

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Drafting technology or related discipline (or 10 years related work experience)

  • 6 years related experience

  • Experience with bridge plans

  • Experience with rebar quantities

  • Experience with Projectwise, Microstation v8i, Connect (OBM/ORD), Bluebeam Revu

  • Self-starter, can work with a team or independently

  • Good time management skills

  • Good communication skills to include use of remote technology to collaborate and train

  • Some experience in training technical staff from beginning levels through more technically advanced levels

  • Some experience with 3D modeling is a plus

  • Leadership skills

  • Experience with leading teams via remote collaboration a plus

What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for verifying the accuracy of drawings, compatibility of work across disciplines and for checking detail and quantity calculations. Calculates design data, prepares layouts, detailed specifications, estimates, reports, etc.

  • Assists in preparing engineering studies and evaluations involved in the development of projects from initial concept to the design stage, with the assistance from the project engineer/architect.

  • Attends project and pre-construction meetings and provides input to ensure proper policies, procedures, and specifications are followed.

  • Responsible for resolving technical design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work and data.

  • Performs general administrative assistance by maintaining complex project plans. May develop documentation, budget figures, staffing needs and training plans, goals and accomplishments for project management reports; monitors accomplishments as related to targeted goals.

  • Makes recommendations regarding process improvement for project delivery at the office level.

  • Calculates quantities and performs engineering related computations.

  • Ability to work effectively and participate in working relationships with clients and sub-contractors.

  • Provides training and mentoring of less experienced technicians. May assist in coordinating work efforts and reviewing work performed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate of Science or Technical School

  • 8 years related experience

  • In lieu of education, 10 years related experience

  • Proficient in the terminology and symbols used in survey notes, plans, shop drawings, aerial photographs, and maps related to a specific Engineering sub-type
