Summary You will serve as a Motor Vehicle Operator in the Supply Management Department, Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Management Branch of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO. The duty station is Point Mugu, CA. Responsibilities You will be responsible for transporting hazardous materials within area of responsibility. You will be responsible for following the safest and most direct route to prescribed destination. You will be responsible for completing and documenting pre-operational checklists. You will be responsible for loading and directing the arrangement of cargo. You will be responsible for using a forklift to load and unload cargo. You will operate a tractor trailer and other vehicles on public roads, congested areas, including positioning vehicles and trailers at loading docks, and coupling and uncoupling trailers. You will perform operator maintenance on trucks and assigned vehicles. You will primarily drive routes which include Metro San Diego, El Centro and Ventura County. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to perform the duties of a Motor Vehicle Operator as demonstrated by experience, working under normal supervision, over public roads and at highway speeds handling the controls for starting, stopping, backing, shifting and driving the vehicle; judging overhead and side clearances, turning radius, and braking distance from the preceding vehicle; loading, unloading, and overseeing the securing of cargo; followed prescribed routes; understanding and applying safety rules and regulations, using defensive driving techniques; safely operated gasoline and diesel trucks and truck tractors with trailers or semi-trailers connected by use of a fifth wheel; conducted vehicle inspections; completed trip tickets, logs and accident reports (as required); verified correct vehicle placarding; handled and transported hazardous materials; assured that HAZMAT is properly documented You must also possess a Class A CDL.
