Summary:

As a member of the Inside Sales organization, the National Sales Manager provides overall leadership to a team of National Sales Account Executives that execute customer campaigns to reach as many customers as possible and develop potential leads while maintaining service for existing customers. This team is poised to identify opportunities for explosive growth through building relationships with decision makers.

The National Sales Manager is seen as a leader within the organization and recognized as an expert others go to for advice and consultation. A national sales manager will be a seasoned sales management professional with strong expertise in consultative selling, coaching, talent acquisition, Cengage Learning sales systems etc. Generally, the level of expertise will be such that the manager will provide instruction to others in these areas.

The National Sales Manager will demonstrate a high level of expertise, objectivity, candor and a supportive demeanor along with fostering a positive and productive team environment among both those managers and individual contributors this position manages. A National Sales Manager may be offered job enrichment opportunities that will allow for additional meaningful contributions in a number of ways including peer mentoring/coaching, being used as a sounding board, interim managing duties and handling special projects, launches and rollouts.

What you'll do here:

  • Provide strategic analysis and direction leading the design and execution of scalable customer campaigns, optimizing for reaching as many customers as possible and identifying and developing promising leads

  • Lead all aspects of the maintenance of basic service for existing customers with little / no growth expectation, while identifying opportunities for explosive growth.

  • Lead a team that will identify leads for significant decisions across a campus, potentially unearthing institutional or all campus wins

  • Work with senor leadership while engaging team members on a small yet visible team

  • Partner with the sales team to drive digital sales opportunities within each territory.

  • Partner with V.P. Inside Sales by providing updates on current business trends, account updates, account strategy, opportunity pipeline, and Cengage Unlimited institutional.

  • Hire and develop top talent into the organization.

  • Responsible for succession planning, including coaching and mentoring for the next step in their career.

  • Strategic analysis of territories by ensuring efficient and effective use of internal key sales tools including Salesforce and Data Warehouse, as well as any other tools, to increase opportunity potential.

Skills you will need here:

Required:

  • Proven knowledge of the college textbook sales process.

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience

  • Three years sales experience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Effective management and prioritization of ongoing multiple tasks.

  • Proven track record to effectively partner with internal peers to accomplish goals

  • Travel 20-30% of the year as needed

Preferred:

  • Institutional selling experience preferred.

  • Strong presentation skills preferred.
