Job Summary:
Caterpillar's Machine & Machine Systems within Innovation and Technology Development Division (Mossville, IL Building AC) is currently seeking an Electronic Systems V&V Senior Engineer to support lab-based software testing for our L4 subsystems software such as Braking/Steering, Implements and Powertrain systems. In this role, you will perform engineering assignments while building detailed knowledge of the Electrical and Electronic systems on Caterpillar's products and the technologies that they enable. You will also support the advancement of the next generation Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) benches as well as the integration of Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) to increase test effectiveness. What You Will Do:
Work with software subsystem application leads, and electronic system design engineers to define testing priorities, determine test coverage, and test/troubleshoot issues identified at our proving grounds and/or customer sites
Work with subsystem engineers to understand subsystem feature requirements, develop test plans, implement test plans, perform testing regression, document test results for embedded software testing
Develop automated test scripts to improve testing efficiency in both the hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) and software-in-the-loop (SiL) space
Identification and implementation of new bench capabilities
Education requirement:
Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering school in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
What skills you will have:
Technical Excellence:
Excellent working knowledge of dSPACE hardware, ControlDesk, Automation Desk, Matlab/Simulink for IO simulation of sensor components and plant modelling, and Dynasty for closed-loop testing and operate our dSPACE HiL benches independently
Excellent working knowledge of CAN, J1939, Ethernet, TCP/IP, other datalink protocols for software integration testing, and CAN Based data acquisition tools (such as Vector CANape and CANalyzer or equivalent).
Excellent working knowledge in Python or C/C++ for test script automation.
Good working knowledge of the embedded software development cycle.
Advise and work with team members to troubleshoot and design next generation HiL benches
Mentor others to improve their technical proficiency to improve team's overall performance.
Ensure accountability for personal technical performance and keep others accountable for their actions, while completing tasks with high precision, accuracy, and quality.
Product Testing :
Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing for L4 subsystems.
Perform software regression, delta content testing, and properly document test results to meet compliance with functional safety requirements and ISO 9001 requirements.
Work with process partners and internal team members to understand usability, safety and integration testing of the HiL benches.
Work with process partners to develop and standardize test plans/test procedures for Braking/Steering, Implements or Powertrain software features.
Analytical Thinking:
Knowledge of data analysis techniques and tools to effectively review test data, be able to understand and explain discrepancies and inconsistencies of test results.
Identify possible causes of bench issues or software defect using sound technical techniques.
Approach a complex problem by breaking it down into smaller components.
Develop and use checklists to ensure that test scripts and test results goes out error-free.
Learns from mistakes and applies lessons learned.
Effective Communication:
Strong verbal and written communications.
Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs to collaborate and work well with different teams.
Ability to present and review test results with process partners and peers.
Ability to review others' writing or presentations and provide feedback and coaching.
Listen to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness.
