WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior ITS Specialist for our Virginia Beach office. The following locations will also be considered: Richmond . Be involved in projects with our Southern Virginia Traffic Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

  • Develop and design innovative concepts for strategic intersection and corridor improvements, including near term initiatives and longer-term capital improvement projects and studies that require coordination with authorities, sub-consultants, and clients.

  • Perform professional traffic engineering work and conduct investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, and transportation corridors to determine conformance with applicable best practices, standards, and construction or operating permits.

  • Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality or end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, and implementing future-ready solutions with traffic engineering design standards.

  • Develop, Coordinate, and review traffic design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable best practices, codes, ordinances, and regulations.

  • Serve as lead traffic engineer on transportation planning, concept plan development, and feasibility studies of highway, bridge and other transportation facilities projects.

  • May provide support for transportation projects in other WSP offices. Occasional travel may be required.

  • Support related TSMO and ITS projects and implementation efforts.

  • Prepare Signing and Pavement Marking design plans and Traffic Signal design plans.

  • Prepare Traffic Control/Staging (i.e., Maintenance and Protection of Traffic) design plans.

  • Perform Crash Analysis and Safety Studies

  • Oversee traffic data collection, trip generation, and traffic analysis activities on various projects

  • Prepare technical writing documents, visualizations, such as tables and charts, and presentations.

  • Prepare engineering design plans, specifications, quantity calculations and cost estimates.

  • Support preparation of statements of qualifications and proposals.

  • Coordinate with other disciplines working on multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Remain current in latest traffic engineering techniques and practices.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation Engineering, or related degree

  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in transportation/traffic engineering experience.

  • Proficient and extensive knowledge of transportation/traffic engineering planning, study and design principles and practices.

  • Engineer license required.

  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.

  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
