Job Description

Job Summary:

This position is responsible to inspect, maintain and repair equipment at Storage and Peaking Ops facilities, and to assist Plant Operators and Technicians to maintain facility operations in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. The Maintenance Specialist will also perform operator duties when assigned.

Job Responsibilities

Functional Expertise:

-Responsible for inspection, maintenance and upkeep of all equipment at Storage and Peaking Ops facilities, including pipeline maintenance and responding to One Call locates.

-Must develop a good working knowledge of assigned facilities and systems and be able to schedule and perform various repairs to equipment as needed.

-Must become familiar with facility operations and competently fill in as Plant Operator when needed, following the facility shift schedule.

-Legibly, and accurately record equipment and facility operations, and prepares required reports completely and accurately

-Comply with Company policies and procedures as well as applicable State and Federal regulations.

-Performs scheduled compliance and/or maintenance checks and/or work orders on equipment under his/her responsibilities or assignments.

-Responds appropriately to abnormal operating conditions in order to maintain a safe and reliable operating environment.

-Responds appropriately to Emergency Response situations and performs first responder duties in accordance with the Emergency Response Plan.

Business Acumen:

-Must be competent with coordinating major equipment or facility repairs and/or inspections by third parties, as qualified and assigned.

-Strives to promote continuous improvement of maintenance and operating practices so as to continually enhance safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facilities.

-Identify and report operational issues that may impact facility reliability or efficiency to peers and supervision.

-Identify and report operational issues that may impact compliance with regulations or company policies and procedures.

Engagement:

-Must be a team player, able to work and communicate effectively with peers, direct supervision and management.

-Assists other site personnel in performing various maintenance and/or inspection tasks as requested. Utilizes the above opportunities as a means to increase self-knowledge and expertise regarding site equipment and the safe, efficient and reliable operations of the facilities.

-Must be self-motivated and hold self-accountable for job duties and responsibilities

-Collaborates with peers, supervision, internal groups, consultants and contractors to improve operations and maintenance processes and practices.

-Promotes good relations with all customers (i.e., commercial, gas control, gas supply, other operating facilities, interconnecting pipelines, management, etc.) and cooperates with other personnel and/or departments.

-Participates in Company or vendor sponsored training programs, cross-training assignments, job shadowing, and/or the Company's educational assistance program to improve self-knowledge and skills.

-Effectively collaborates with others to plan, schedule, measure and evaluate work activities to ensure that facilities continually operate safely, reliably and efficiently

-Works with peers to continually improve system efficiency and reliability.

Qualifications

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required:

High School Graduate or GED

Valid state driver's license

Preferred:

Associates degree in technical, process, or plant operator specialties

Related Work Experience:

Required:

General mechanical aptitude

Preferred:

Gas operations and/or process experience, or equivalent experience

Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases or liquids, and high-pressure systems.

Knowledge of the principles internal combustion engines, and gas processing equipment.

Specific Skills & Knowledge:

Required:

Must be able to pass DOT Operator Qualification requirements for specific covered tasks.

Proficient understanding and use of the English language.

Ability to prepare written and electronic reports in a clear and concise manner.

Good computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, MS Outlook, etc.).

Ability to interact effectively with others

Motivated, with good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

Mathematical proficiency

Knowledge of pipeline, compression, process, LNG, LP, and/or storage field operations.

Basic knowledge of gas handling/processing equipment.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

The incumbent works in a plant and field environment, in all types of weather conditions.

May be required to work shift schedules that may vary according to facility operational requirements.

Lift and carry medium to heavy weight items.

Reach overhead for items, stoop, bend, and twist while working.

Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently.

Job Description

Basic Function:

Position performs upkeep maintenance of buildings, structures and grounds located at LNG facilities requiring the use and operation of commercial equipment. Assists LNG Plant technicians in operational and maintenance activities. Performs assigned monthly preventive maintenance procedures. Maintains the cleanliness of facility equipment and performs corrosion prevention. Responsible for the proper documentation of preventive maintenance tasks. Assists in maintaining parts inventories.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

- Adheres to all Company safety practices, works closely and effectively with other personnel and uses good judgment to ensure safe and efficient operations while striving to meet department goals and objectives.

- Must posess the ability to operate equipment such as lawn mower, weed eaters, tractors, backhoes and trenching equipment.

- Must posess the ability to perform basic plumbing, electrical maintenance and painting required to maintain facility buildings, equipment and structures.

- Must have good interpersonal skills in order to work closely with others as well as alone and demonstrate the ability to follow verbal and written directions. Must possess good verbal communication skills resulting in the effective transfer of information.

- Performs non-technical preventive maintenance tasks and equipment calibrations such as facility security inspections and gas monitoring device inspections.

- Responsible for performing daily maintenance on all buildings and equipment supported by the LNG facilities, making good decisions with minimal supervision.

- Responsible for performing grounds maintenance including mowing, weeding, trimming, seeding and cultivating.

- Cleans, scrapes, paints and washes buildings, piping, tanks and equipment as directed.

- Picks up and disposes of all refuse and debris ensuring concrete surfaces are kept free of dirt, oil and grease. Sweep and mop floors as necessary. Ensures equipment is kept free of grease, oil and dust.

- Assists the operator in daily and monthly inventory activities with the ability to perform basic inventory processes.

- Performs maintenance duties and any other tasks assigned by supervision.

- Performs portable vaporization duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Required:

- High school diploma or GED

- Basic technical knowledge

- Pass the Company's DOT physical examination

- Ability to work overtime on an as-needed basis

Equivalent academic education and experience

Skills:

- Possess the ability to comprehend and reliably perform all procedures from emergency and security manuals

This position will be located at The Energy Center in Birmingham, AL

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is in the Hourly Trading group within the Gas Supply and Energy Trading department in the Commercial Operations, Planning and Environmental (COP&E) organization. Hourly Trading works closely with Real Time Operations to optimize the Southern Company generation fleet in the real time wholesale power market. This position will provide support for negotiating and executing short term wholesale transactions and the administration of multiple long-term wholesale contracts. This position will primarily be responsible for energy scheduling and tagging activities, transmission procurement, transaction entry and checkout, billing support, and general support to assist energy traders. This position requires the ability to perform detailed transactional work while under strict deadlines. This position entails working in an exciting, fast paced trading floor environment where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain insights into a broad sweep of the business including unit commitment, economic dispatch, fleet and gas operations, energy trading, risk, asset management, transmission, and billing.

Hourly Trading is a 24x7x365 function. This position is part of a 6-person team and will be required to work rotating 12 hour shifts which includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Over a typical 6-week rotation this position only works a total of 23 days compared to traditional jobs which work a total of 30 days over the same period. Below is an example of the current shift schedule.

  • Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, & Sunday (Day Shift 5 AM - 5 PM)

  • Week 2: Wednesday & Thursday (Day Shift 5 AM - 5 PM)

  • Week 3: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday (T Shift [40 hours] - 8 hours each day)

  • Week 4: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, & Sunday (Night Shift 5 PM - 5 AM)

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a course of study that demonstrates strong analytical and technical skills such as Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Business etc. is desired but not required

  • An MBA or advanced degree in these areas or a related field is a plus

  • NERC System Operator Certification is a plus

Experience:

At Nicor Gas, we handle emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, similar to a fire/police department. JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Two-year degree (college/technical/vocational) or 3 years of equivalent experience in electronics, telecommunications and/or computer technology is required.

  • FCC General Radiotelephone Operators License or equivalent license for radio repair is preferred, but not required for initial employment.

  • An FCC license or equivalent license will be required at the end of six months employment.

  • Technical knowledge and skills that would enable you to pass the Alabama Power Craft Knowledge and Skills test is required before employment (a study guide is provided).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance (both reactive and preventive) and project support on the Southern Company's voice, data, and telecommunications transport networks

Job Description

The Construction Inspector position for Virginia Natural Gas is instrumental to ensuring our pipeline assets are constructed in a safe, quality, compliant, and efficient manner. The pipeline assets constructed by our internal and external crews are the assets that fuel our Company's success and provide millions of customers safe and reliable gas service.

As our Inspector Construction, a typical day might include:

  • Overseeing construction of underground gas utility infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial properties to ensure they are installed per the design

  • Inspecting Construction Activities (safety, compliance, quality, environmental, locates and restoration) to ensure quality & safety standards are met & documented.

  • Maintaining customer satisfaction through timely and thorough communication with individual customers, municipalities, and other governmental agencies at pre-con meetings and throughout the project (such as state DOTs, counties, etc.).

  • Serving as technical support for Company Specifications (OPM), Operator Qualifications (OQ) and Construction Quality Assurance/Control (CQA) and makes corrective actions as needed.

Required

  • Basic MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint

  • Intermediate interpretation of design drawings and specifications

  • Basic knowledge of gas industry and OSHA regulations and their impact on construction processes

JOB SUMMARY:

The Technology Service Desk analyst position is responsible for providing the frontline, single point of contact for business partners requiring assistance from the Technology Organization (TO) for issue resolution and service request fulfillment, and new events that come into the Technology Service Desk (24x7). The RLC analyst must combine World Class customer service and is also a technical expert that uses those skills to ensure that TO's business partners needs are handled on the initial contact, as often as possible.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

B.S. degree in a technology-related field, preferred

1 to 3 years' experience in computer/technology field, preferred

Thorough knowledge of information technologies and an understanding of infrastructure and telecommunication transport

Ability to build and maintain relationships within IT and other departments

Demonstrated willingness to take ownership of technical issues

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Technology Service Desk analyst position requires the analyst to be available to take calls, utilizes phone and voice communication technologies to interact with business partners, responding to support needs in a timely fashion with excellent customer service. The analyst in this position must strive to increase the value received from end-user technology products by communicating and educating others about current products and/or future products, and acts as a coordinator, performing communication touchpoints with Infrastructure Operations Center, Application Portfolio teams and products owner, Workplace Support, etc.

Communication and Teamwork - 25%

The analyst in this position also follows established processes and procedures and adheres to all Sarbanes-Oxley controls. The analyst should demonstrate teamwork when working with other technology departments and key business units; to inform appropriate parties when issues arise with product deployments, updates, and changes, as well as degraded service.

Other responsibilities - 10%

The Technology Service Desk analyst must ensure that all incidents are completely and appropriately documented so that trend analysis and call avoidance analysis can be completed. This position is a technical expert who consults with and fixes technology issues for clients and develops solutions. This position is critical for ensuring that business partners' technology needs are met and that business partners are satisfied.
