Job Summary:
This position is responsible to inspect, maintain and repair equipment at Storage and Peaking Ops facilities, and to assist Plant Operators and Technicians to maintain facility operations in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. The Maintenance Specialist will also perform operator duties when assigned.
Job Responsibilities
Functional Expertise:
-Responsible for inspection, maintenance and upkeep of all equipment at Storage and Peaking Ops facilities, including pipeline maintenance and responding to One Call locates.
-Must develop a good working knowledge of assigned facilities and systems and be able to schedule and perform various repairs to equipment as needed.
-Must become familiar with facility operations and competently fill in as Plant Operator when needed, following the facility shift schedule.
-Legibly, and accurately record equipment and facility operations, and prepares required reports completely and accurately
-Comply with Company policies and procedures as well as applicable State and Federal regulations.
-Performs scheduled compliance and/or maintenance checks and/or work orders on equipment under his/her responsibilities or assignments.
-Responds appropriately to abnormal operating conditions in order to maintain a safe and reliable operating environment.
-Responds appropriately to Emergency Response situations and performs first responder duties in accordance with the Emergency Response Plan.

-Must be competent with coordinating major equipment or facility repairs and/or inspections by third parties, as qualified and assigned.
-Strives to promote continuous improvement of maintenance and operating practices so as to continually enhance safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facilities.
-Identify and report operational issues that may impact facility reliability or efficiency to peers and supervision.
-Identify and report operational issues that may impact compliance with regulations or company policies and procedures.

-Must be a team player, able to work and communicate effectively with peers, direct supervision and management.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is in the Hourly Trading group within the Gas Supply and Energy Trading department in the Commercial Operations, Planning and Environmental (COP&E) organization. Hourly Trading works closely with Real Time Operations to optimize the Southern Company generation fleet in the real time wholesale power market. This position will provide support for negotiating and executing short term wholesale transactions and the administration of multiple long-term wholesale contracts. This position will primarily be responsible for energy scheduling and tagging activities, transmission procurement, transaction entry and checkout, billing support, and general support to assist energy traders. This position requires the ability to perform detailed transactional work while under strict deadlines. This position entails working in an exciting, fast paced trading floor environment where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain insights into a broad sweep of the business including unit commitment, economic dispatch, fleet and gas operations, energy trading, risk, asset management, transmission, and billing.
Hourly Trading is a 24x7x365 function. This position is part of a 6-person team and will be required to work rotating 12 hour shifts which includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Over a typical 6-week rotation this position only works a total of 23 days compared to traditional jobs which work a total of 30 days over the same period. Below is an example of the current shift schedule.
