The USAA Catastrophe team is seeking experienced Field Property Adjusters in the local Austin, TX area. This is an hourly, non-exempt position with paid overtime and potential CAT pay availability. A company vehicle is provided. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

The Opportunity

As a Property Adjuster Specialist you will work within defined guidelines and framework, investigates, evaluates, negotiates, and settles complex property insurance claims. You will confirm/analyze coverage, recognize liability exposure and negotiate equitable settlement in compliance with all state regulatory requirements. Will recognize and empathize with members' life events, as appropriate.

What you'll do:

  • Proactively manages assigned claims caseload comprised of complex damages that require commensurate knowledge and understanding of claims coverage including potential legal liability.

  • Partners with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate complex claims resolution. May also involve external regulatory coordination to ensure appropriate documentation and compliance.

  • Investigates claim damages by conducting research from various sources, including the insured, third parties, and external resources. May identify and resolve potential discrepancies and identifies subrogation potential resulting from unusual characteristics.

  • Identifies coverage concerns, reviews prior loss history, determines and creates Special Investigation Unit (SIU) referrals, when appropriate. Determines coverage through analyzing information involving complex policy terms and contingencies.

  • Determines and negotiates complex claims settlement within authority limits. Develops recommendations and collaborates with management for determining settlement amounts outside of authority limits and accurately manages claims outcomes.

  • Maintains accurate, thorough, and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process.

  • Advance knowledge of estimating technology platforms and virtual inspection tools. Utilizes platforms and tools to prepare claims estimates to manage complex property insurance claims.

  • Supports workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations as needed, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work outside normal work hours.

  • May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs.

  • Works various types of claims, including ones of higher complexity, and may be assigned additional work outside normal duties as needed.

  • Works independently solving complex problems with minimal guidance; acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • Adjusts complex claims with attorney involvement.

  • Recognizes and addresses jurisdictional challenges such as applicable legislation and construction considerations.

  • May require travel to resolve claims, attend training, and conduct in-person inspections.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.

  • 2 years of relevant property claims adjusting experience of moderate complexity losses that includes writing estimates, involving dwelling and structural damages.

  • Advanced knowledge of estimating losses using Xactimate or similar tools and platforms.

  • Proficient knowledge of residential construction.

  • Proficient knowledge of property claims contracts and interpretation of case law and state laws and regulations.

  • Proficient negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Proven investigatory, analytical, prioritizing, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to travel 50-75% of the year (local & non-local) and/or work catastrophe duty when needed.

  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.

  • Successful completion of a job-related assessment may be required.

  • Deployment experience in support of catastrophes.

Physical Demand Requirements:

  • May require the ability to crouch and stoop to inspect confined spaces, to include attics and go beneath homes into crawl spaces.

  • May need to meet all USAA safe driving requirements including verification of driving record through MVR & possession of valid driver's license.

  • May require the ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds to include lifting a ladder in and out of the trunk of a car.

  • May require the ability to climb ladders and traverse roofs, this includes the ability to work at heights while inspecting roofs and attics.

The Opportunity

The Corporate Communications Principal will operate as a strategic advisor to the CEO, working closely with the AVP of CEO & Board Communications. S/he will serve as a deputy to the AVP, helping manage the team and ensure overall alignment to the CEO's communications strategy. S/he will approve deliverables, as well as provide coaching to the team as it relates to preparing the CEO's materials for upcoming engagements and developing content to syndicate across channels. The Principal will also manage special projects, as assigned, including writing content on behalf of the CEO.

As a dedicated Bank Fraud Regulatory Compliance Management and At Risk Persons Program (Executive) , you will lead, develop, coordinate, and ensure the implementation of first line of defense risk management programs and framework to ensure risk data is captured. The Opportunity

As a dedicated Product Development Director for our Auto Modernization Team , you will be accountable for developing new products, overseeing, and managing the launch and maturation of new products into target strategic markets. Acting as a cross functional expert, this position provides expertise and support for product line initiatives related to product development, compliance, operational and process improvements, claims management, vendor management, product documentation, fulfillment, and/or system releases.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Responsible for development of digital first products supporting the needs and risks of USAA Members

  • Leads development and launch of new innovative product offerings as well as auxiliary/enhanced features/services for existing products.

  • Develops recommendations to launch new products and the evaluation and decision to buy/build or ally for individual product(s).

  • Generates creative product and coverage solutions for member needs to ensure a dynamic product development pipeline exists.

  • Responsible for maintaining thorough level of knowledge of business and underwriting performance for products in scope (e.g., trends, results, etc.)

  • Responsible for post-launch monitoring, maintenance and underwriting of -new in market- products based on product performance, member needs and competitive changes in the market including but not limited to product rules, rates, and forms.

  • Conducts complex analysis of internal and external data and member information to support formulation of product strategy and enhance competitive intelligence.

  • Develops and communicates the new product value proposition for individual products.

  • Ensures sales support is delivered to all distribution channels (e.g., .com, mobile, contact center) so that the new product is properly positioned to members.

  • Leads the analysis and evaluation of new product performance metrics to make changes to offerings, if necessary, prior to full launch

  • Coordinates with relevant control partners (to include Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management) to ensure product offerings are designed and implemented in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, Statistics, or related discipline; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years relevant experience in Actuary, Underwriting, Marketing, Operations, Financial Services or relevant military experience.

  • Extensive experience in developing, deploying and supporting product and/or integrated suite of products.

  • Experience working through agile product development process, managing multiple products simultaneously.

  • Knowledge and application of Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC).

  • Creative problem solver with hands on experience in problem framing, qualitative & quantitative research, running product experiments, hypothesis testing and prototyping to launch products at the intersection of Human, Technology and Business dimensions.

  • Navigates through ambiguous contexts with confidence.

  • Ability to break large complex initiatives into smaller manageable features and capabilities and deliver them early and often.

  • Technical P&C product knowledge, specifically Auto, Homeowners, Renters, etc.,

  • Experience working with P&C platforms that support the entire insurance lifecycle such as Guidewire, DuckCreek, etc.,

  • Product Development and Design experience, including bringing large scale product enhancements and new products to market start to finish.

  • Experience with technology transformation, to include prior policy migration/conversion strategy experience, in the P&C industry.

  • Proven ability to gain broad cross-functional alignment and organizational sponsorship for strategic initiatives.
