WSP USA hosts hundreds of internships across the United States to gain hands-on, meaningful work experience to enhance their education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Through our Developing Professionals Network, interns gain mentorship, networking opportunities and lifelong career connections.

Our Raleigh Water Resources Team is seeking a Full-Time Water Resources Engineering Intern to work out of our downtown Raleigh, NC office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.

This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 19th, 2025 . The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

The desired candidate has completed courses in hydrology and hydraulics, have some familiarity with drafting software and/or GIS, and be a motived learner, curious, and driven.

Your Impact

  • Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.

  • Learn basic principles of water resources Engineering.

  • Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.

  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.

  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.

  • Complete training on assigned tasks.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

  • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.

  • Must be 18 or older.

  • Demonstrated interest in water resource management, or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.

  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.

  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Reviews and approves Project Risk Register/Mitigation Plan, Project Execution Plan and the Project Quality Plan.

  • Conducts monthly Operational Project Reviews on all projects and publishes the project review report with critical issues and actions.

  • Attends internal WSP Administrative Project Reviews as required to discuss projects within their portfolio meeting the Administrative Project Review thresholds.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Planning, Architecture or related degree.

  • 15+ years of successful experience proposing on, negotiating fee proposals, and delivering Architectural & Engineering (AE) planning, design, and AE construction-phase oversight services on projects under U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) IDIQ contracts (more favorable if such experience is for NAVFAC IDIQs).

  • 5+ years' experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering/architectural teams.

  • Professional registration US licensed Architect or Engineer.

Our Federal Team is seeking an Environmental Science Intern to work out of our Morristown, NJ office. The following locations will also be considered: Albany, NY; Buffalo, NY; Lawrenceville, NJ; and Valhalla, NY . This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.

This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 19th, 2025. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.

Your Impact

  • Assist in the development of work planning documents for field investigations related to Federal projects to characterize and mitigate contaminated sediments, groundwater, and soils.

  • Assist with data analysis for surface water, soils, sediments and groundwater to identify the nature and extent of environmental contamination and to understand transport pathways.

  • Conduct research on environmental fate and transport processes and remedial technologies for contaminated sites as needed.

kW Mission Critical Engineering, a WSP USA company, is currently initiating a search for a Power Studies Engineer for our kW offices, preferably our Atlanta, GA; Milwaukee, WI; Tempe, AZ; Troy, NY: New York, NY: or Herndon, VA offices. As a Power Studies Engineer with us, you will analyze complex power and other building systems including generator plants, medium voltage distribution, uninterruptible power systems. Selectively coordinate medium voltage relays and low voltage circuit breakers and perform arc flash analysis. Compile data into final report for project leads.

Your Impact

  • Perform preliminary short circuit calculations to validate equipment ratings during design.

  • Build power system models which accurately reflect designed and constructed systems.

  • Perform medium- and low-voltage coordination studies to develop optimum protective relay and breaker settings balancing safety and operational reliability.

  • Evaluate submitted equipment for capability to withstand available fault current at points throughout the distribution system.

  • Perform arc flash studies in compliance with NFPA and industry standards.

  • Generate short circuit, coordination, and arc flash study reports, along with arc flash labels.

  • Perform reliability studies in accordance with IEEE Gold Book standards and industry practices.

  • Lead junior staff, supervise, train, and mentor.

  • Coordinate with internal design leads and clients to obtain required information, discuss options, and develop solutions.

  • Educate clients on the importance of breaker coordination and arc flash.

  • Perform QA/QC on calculations and studies performed by others.

  • Refine and maintain standards for power studies and reports across offices.

  • Assist project management with scheduling, scope development, and proposal development

  • Strategically contribute to overall firm goals

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate is interested in power studies production work to support projects and has a background in physics or engineering as well as experience in building design or power studies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 1-3 years electrical power studies experience

  • Technical leadership and strong background in electrical studies

  • Knowledge of building codes, NFPA 70 & 70E, and IEEE 1584

  • Experience with SKM PowerTools

  • Strategic thinking, suggesting, and implementing improvements

  • Ability to listen to client needs, engage with design team members, and drive project beyond expectations

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Protective relaying design experience

  • Experience with ReliaSoft BlockSim

  • P.E.

  • Large scale facilities or Mission Critical/Data Center experience

  • Experience with other power studies tools (SKM, ETAP, etc)

This Opportunity

Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, concept development, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems, and sewage treatment. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.

  • Assist with performing basic professional civil engineering work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
