WSP's Grants Strategy & Development group supports our clients in planning, preparing, winning, and managing competitive grant funding from federal, state, and local sources. You will co-lead a group of 20+ professionals and experts in their fields and manage 8-10 staff directly. You will work directly public and private organizations across the country to fund and manage their grant funded projects and initiatives, driving both project delivery and business development for the group.
Your Impact
Manage 8-10 employees
Co-lead the Grants Strategy & Development Service Group
Manage and oversee the grant services throughout the organization
Analyzing project and program funding and financing options
Lead business development activities in pursuit of grant support consultant contracts
Lead and contribute to client engagement and foster client relationships; current with trends, opportunities, etc.
Manage and mentor staff working on grant related services
Serve as Project Manager / Task Lead for grant assistance contracts; manage scope, schedule, and budget
Overseeing the development of reports, memorandums, and client ready documentation
Lead client meetings and workshops
Demonstrate general knowledge of federal policy, federal legislation and grant guidelines
Provide grant writing and funding strategy support for infrastructure projects
Provide grants management and compliance support to grant funded projects
Actively contribute to client relationships (both internally and externally)
Develop grants funding strategies for public infrastructure projects, on behalf of clients, and in collaboration with the Advisory team and other WSP practice groups
Support the professional growth of our staff within the Grants Strategy & Development group
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
10+ years of relevant experience
Bachelor's degree
Strong analytical and quantitative skills
Proven experience managing staff
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated research skills and experience
Grant writing experience for federal discretionary government programs
Past project management experience, including projects, schedule, staffing, and budget
Familiarity with US Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration (FTA) or other federal competitive grant programs
Manage time efficiently and ability to work well with multiple deadlines and flexibility to adapt to unanticipated client requests for grant development and/or management support
Ability to think creatively, work independently, and deliver high quality work with minimal oversight
Ability to lead teams, synthesize problems, and communicate point of view and analytical results
Significant experience using Microsoft Office's suite of applications and their higher-level capabilities
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree is preferred.
Familiarity with Federal Transit Administration and/or other US Department of Transportation funding and financing programs such as the Capital Investment Grants Program (CIG); Section 5307, 5337, and 5339 formula programs; other discretionary grant programs; and federal financing programs such as TIFIA and RRIF
Grants management experience (post-award), such as experience with FTA's TrAMS system and other federal grantor portals
Support clients in the obligation of their grant funds
Familiarity and experience with California discretionary grant programs (SB1 and TIRCP)
Post Graduate Education (Graduate Level Courses Short Courses, Masters, PhD in Planning or other related disciplines)
Active member of local professional organizations
Participation on conference program with panels, poster sessions, papers and presentations

Our Fire and Life Safety (FLS) team is seeking Fire & Life Safety Engineering Interns- Summer 2025 to work out of our Arlington, VA office and the following locations will also be considered: Boston; Columbia; Dallas; Houston; New York City . This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.
This 12-week internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program that is scheduled to start on May 19th, 2025. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.
Your Impact
Research of building code, life safety code, and fire code requirements. This will include familiarity with both ICC and NFPA codes, including the International Building Code and NFPA 101.
Assist with the design of fire protection and life safety engineering systems including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke management systems, and egress systems.
Assist in the preparation of fire engineering calculations including smoke modeling and evacuation analysis from simple hand calculations to complex 3D computational modeling.
Assist in the commissioning of fire alarm, fire suppression, smoke control, and life safety systems.
Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on various code requirements, calculations, and design strategies to develop performance-based solutions for projects.
Under general supervision, assist with review architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements, and with producing fire safety strategy (basis of design) documents to inform and support the chosen building characteristics throughout the design process.
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
Learn basic principles of Fire Protection Engineering, working under direct supervision of engineers.
Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
Meeting required schedules while producing quality work.
Coordinates design efforts with multi-discipline teams.
Ability to perform code research independently to solve technical issues and dictate basis of design.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Actively enrolled in an accredited Fire Protection Engineering, or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.
Must be 18 or older.
Demonstrated interest in Fire Protection & Life Safety or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, or closely related discipline.
12+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, civil and infrastructure design.
Engineer license required.
Advanced proficiency with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
Advanced proficiency with infrastructure design.
Strong working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.

Your Impact
Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.

Develops project work breakdown structure, project budgets, margin analysis, and creates associated funding in Oracle for larger and/or more complex projects. WSP is currently initiating a search for an OV Office Engineer for our Atlanta, GA Transportation team. The WSP Atlanta office serves clients from around the state on a wide variety of projects ranging from turn lanes and widening, roundabouts, intersection improvements and bridge replacements to urban interchange reconstructions and large design-build projects. Your Impact

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior mechanical design experience.
Engineer license required.
Proficient with mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, and the application to project work-related issues.
Extensive knowledge of building and infrastructure design, codes and standards.
Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.

Our Earth & Environment Team is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern - Summer 2025 to work out of our Madison, WI office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.
This 12 week internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program that is scheduled to start on May 19, 2025. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.
Your Impact
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
Learn basic principles of Geotechnical Engineering.
Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

This position is best suited for an engineer who is seeking an opportunity to work within a team-focused local office, for a large world-wide engineering firm. Provides technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of plumbing systems on infrastructure, building, and construction projects in the public and private sector. Responsibilities include the research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of plumbing systems, fire suppression and protection, and fluid flow equipment, systems, and processes. Substantiates reports and documentation regarding installation, construction, and operation specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
Determine well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
Perform professional plumbing engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, and usage; and install plumbing, fire protection and suppression, and fluid flow systems to conform with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
Develop construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing construction safety and phasing plans, and updating infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, architects, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
Incorporate advanced technology, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications; implementing future-ready solutions with plumbing engineering design standards.
Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assist with laying out installation of equipment, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, schematics, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.

Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
