WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Environmental Scientist for our Ridgeland, Mississippi office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the collection, identification, and compiling of observational and spatial data concerning a variety of biological, physical, and earth sciences. Provides local assistance for the development of processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, air emission, pollution control, cultural impact, and preserving the quality of the environment by identifying, controlling, and preventing disruption to environmental systems and species caused by human activity. Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
Your Impact
Oversee soil borings and groundwater monitoring well installations
Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air, and soil gas samples in support of site investigation, remedies, and pilot studies from soil and groundwater remediation systems
Collect data in complex field situations with supervision and document field activities
Perform other field exploration, inspection, testing, and analyses using equipment and instrumentation
Prepare components of site investigation reporting including work plans, data summaries, calculations, tables, figures, charts, drawings and report text
Assist Project Managers and project teams, ensuring effective client communication and relations
Organize field work, assign tasks, and work with other staff specialists and technicians to complete assignments

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
BS or BA in Geology, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, or related technical field.
Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products., as well as awareness of mitigation programs.
Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

Tasks may include permitting, site and impact assessment, restoration, land use management plans, public involvement, and ensuring environmental regulatory compliance. Generates accurate and concise documentation, assessing and advising on project areas by applying and integrating urban and regional planning with a focus on sustainability. Your Impact

Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, field/work site notes, and software.
Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for low to mid-level threat mitigation and permitting activities projects to minimize impacts to the health of the environment and the population.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience.)

May also support design-build or other traffic engineering projects as needed.

Design communications networks and traffic signal improvements to facilitate remote, real time corridor operations.
Involved from project inception to completion in the management of design and construction of traffic projects, including pavement rehabilitation and reconstruction, grading, drainage, pavement design, specifications, phasing, and construction safety plans.
Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.

Knowledge of traffic engineering and planning software (HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, ArcGIS).
Prior demonstrated knowledge and experience of DOT advisory circulars and procedures.

Required Qualifications

Registered Professional Engineer.

Serve as project manager for traffic engineering projects.
Work on Signal Design and Operational Improvements projects, signal optimization projects, as well as traffic engineering projects for TDOT.
Work on traffic analyses and crash analyses for TDOT and municipal projects.

Required Qualifications

We have an immediate opening for a motivated Transportation Planning Engineer with local transportation projects experience, with a focus on Preliminary Engineering Reports and Environmental Studies (Phase I). Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, General Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience.)
Illinois P.E. license, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
12+ years of experience working in the preliminary engineering field, completing preliminary engineering studies and incorporating NEPA environmental reviews and commitments into preliminary engineering documents, primarily for federal, state or local transportation agencies, private utilities, or equivalent infrastructure sectors.
Highly proficient preliminary engineering skills to provide project and task management in preparing IDOT-format Project Development Reports, Project Reports and Design Reports, or similarly formatted reports for other agencies.
Working knowledge of relevant environmental laws, permitting requirements, notification and compliance practices, and applicable Regional/State/Federal regulatory framework.
Advanced expertise with consulting practices and preparation of associated documentation.
Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior-level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Experienced with providing critical review of documents and preparing technical deliverables, reports, and plans with a high degree of complexity.
Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
Experience with Computer skills (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as discipline-specific software (i.e., Bentley OpenRoads, ArcGIS).
Proficiency with technical and business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
Extensive critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results and data gathering, to identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree is preferred.
Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable.
Knowledge of and experience with Illinois Department of Transportation BDE and BLR (or other state or regional agency equivalent) policies and procedures.

Your Impact
Provide proactive and strategic process leadership for operations activities in support of planning, engineering, and construction projects in the rail industry, with a specific focus on intercity passenger rail (i.e., Corridor ID and Fed-State Partnership programs).
Provide expertise to complex transit and rail operations projects, and work across business lines and disciplines as needed to achieve the best outcomes for our clients.
Provide freight rail operations and strategic planning experience to projects such as state rail plans.
Assist with the pursuit of new business and the successful execution of work for current and potential planning, engineering, and/or construction projects in the rail industry.
Lead technical aspects of projects.
Drive the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Rail Operations and Service Planning work for WSP, with a focus on rail infrastructure and operations opportunities in all disciplines (planning, design, strategic consulting, advisory services, and program/construction management).
Drive compliance and accountability at all levels with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, codes, policies, and regulatory requirements that apply to transit and rail operations, especially FRA and FTA.
Provide input and information for proposals and project work scopes, pricing, budget, and performance metrics.
Interpret and summarize data, including producing reports and documents for complex projects and initiatives that result in sound operational and regulatory outcomes for our clients.
Contribute subject matter expertise to multi-disciplinary project teams and provide high level strategic advice to clients on rail operations and safety, in both passenger and freight rail environments.
Develop high-level business contacts and a client base for providing high level transit and rail operations services including identifying additional business development opportunities, and cross-selling of other WSP capabilities.
Remain current in latest rail operating, planning, and safety practices.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
7 to 10+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior transit and rail experience.
Solid background in FRA-regulated railroad operations, or a combination of education and/or relevant experience to meet the job requirements.
Solid background in strategic rail planning.
Proficiency in office productivity software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Our Transportation Team is seeking a Full-Time Structural Engineering Intern to work out of our Raleigh, NC office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.
This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 19th, 2025. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible.
Your Impact
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
Learn basic principles of Structural Engineering.
Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
