This opportunity entails being responsible for assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery in partnership with the project team. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB's clients.
Our Scott Depot, West Virginia Office is seeking New Grad Engineers for Summer 2024 within the Transportation group.
What You'll Do:
Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
Supports the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
Supports engineering teams with various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
Performs other duties as assigned

Exhibits an understanding of engineering principles relevant to the discipline.
Attains knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with MicroStation or other software.

Ensures project costs are properly coded and allocated by maintaining awareness of project status, and proactively determining the financial data updates in response to project changes.
Manages cost transfers to and from projects/tasks.
Supports the project finance team in reviewing and approving project invoices, updating invoice requirements from contractual documents, verifying billed costs, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements, including insurance certificates and adherence to client systems and formats.
Generates routine and ad hoc internal project financial performance reports for project and office teams.
Reviews and may provide financial approval of vendor/subconsultant invoices for accuracy and contractual compliance, including DBE and insurance certificate requirements.
Obtains necessary approvals and tracks internal workflow status for timely outcomes.
Partners with the project team to develop and maintain client and subconsultant relationships and acts as a project liaison to field contract billing questions and/or provide receivables updates.
May assist or lead the subcontracting processes throughout the project lifecycle.
Supports the proposal process, including gross margin analysis, cost proposal development, alignment with the project management system, and client proposal/estimate formats.

What We're Looking For
Responsible for the production and modification of engineering plans, design calculations, technical reports, and specifications for assigned projects. This position consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies drafting techniques, procedures and design criteria for complex and cross-discipline projects. Attends project and pre-construction meetings and provides input to ensure proper policies, procedures, and specifications are followed. Prepares electronic files for use in meetings and facilitates their display.
Calculates quantities and performs engineering related computations.
Provides training and mentoring of less experienced technicians.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Associate of Science or Technical School
6 years related experience

Proficient in the terminology and symbols used in survey notes, plans, shop drawings, aerial photographs, and maps related to a specific Engineering sub-type

May offer guidance and mentorship to Project Finance Associates, including oversight of day-to-day work. Utilizes PFAs for routine transactional support.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of financial, project accounting/analysis, or related experience, or
In lieu of education, 6 years of financial, project accounting/analysis, or related work experience
What We Prefer:
Master's degree in Business or Engineering
Project Management certification, Other Contracting/Project Management Certifications
Knowledge of Project Management Processes/Project Controls
Knowledge of Accounting/Financial Principles and Practices
Good communication skills (written and verbal)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
Strong conceptual and analytical skills
Leadership Skills (works well independently and in team environment, able to direct/manage others effectively, work with all levels of management, independent decision-making abilities)
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
Understands the A/E Industry
