We are looking for the right candidate to join our growing Infrastructure Solutions section in Chicago as a Project Engineer. This role provides opportunities to design electrical and lighting systems for a variety of clients on highway, bridge, transit, and aviation projects.

Responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position works closely with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge, experience and client relationships to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB's clients.

  • Observes on-site material testing and coordinates testing and monitoring services. Performs mathematical calculations for material quantity payments. Performs basic shop drawing review and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.

  • Reviews contractor's daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness and consistency. Regularly reviews contractor's as-built mark-ups, documents project progress using video and photo and prepares reports on construction progress.

  • Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.

  • Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.

  • Performs office engineer work when needed including but not limited to; prepares meeting agendas and meeting minutes, assists in processing and maintains tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates and other deliverables.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
