Who we are
When a U.S. Navy ship needs repairs, they call us! HII - Mission Technologies is currently seeking a Senior Safety Technician to join our Environmental Health and Safety Department. This position will be located in our Newport News and Hampton Roads location. This position requires performing safety surveillances onboard aircraft carriers and providing input for corrective actions for all findings observed. The selected candidate will also provide safety training for Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) employees in a variety of areas that include: Fire Watch, Fall Protection, Hot Work, Confined Spaces, Scaffolding Competent Person, Permit Authorizing Individual, Paint Sampling and Hazard Communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Implements and monitors industrial safety programs to ensure personnel and facility safety.
Participates in monitoring and controlling the organization's safety standards in accordance with OSHA and State codes and regulations.
Evaluates new equipment and materials for safety.
Monitors employee exposure to chemicals and other toxic substances.
Performs surveys and inspections to ensure compliance with the organization's policies, procedures, regulations and standards related to employee safety.
Tests and services safety equipment and systems.
Reports non-compliance or hazardous conditions found and suggests remedial action to be taken.
May maintain storage areas, consumable supply inventories, and personnel protection equipment.
Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, radiation, or fire and smoke incidents in the facility.
Lead the Bi-Monthly RCOH Safety Committee meetings.
What you need to have:
Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 6 years related experience or High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years related experience.
Must be able to establish and maintain a positive working relationship with RCOH employees, the customer.
US Navy/shipyard experience with a background in engineering, deck, maintenance, or safety.
Must have prior shipyard experience working in confined spaces and hot work as well as familiarity with ship's maintenance/3M.
Must have experience with creating/submitting various reports in a timely manner.
Must be able to work on their own, with little direct supervision.
Bonus points for:
OSHA 10 Hour Maritime Authorized Trainer.
Shipyard Competent Person Qualified.
Fall Protection/Rigging Trainer highly desired.
Respiratory Protection Fit Tester/Program Manager.
Experience managing hazardous waste and disposal.

Job Description
An Ingalls Welder is responsible for the joining together of different types of metal materials with a variety of welding processes; the most basic of which are, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as "stick welding- and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) also known as -wire welding.- The shipyard environment is an around the clock manufacturing setting. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Welder may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.
Must Have
This position requires a minimum of one (1) year of work experience in FCAW (Flux Core) and SWAW (Stick) welding, the ability to pass military standard tests in the vertical (3G), horizontal (2G) and overhead (4G) positions.
Successful completion of a welding technical training certification program will be allowed in lieu of experience requirement. Qualified applicants will be required to pass a hands-on skill assessment; the weld test is for x-ray quality.
Nice to Have
High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred. Previous experience in shipbuilding is preferred.

The Role
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). The SSNX program is seeking an Engineering Technician 4 to join the Ao (operational availability) team in order to support the development of the next generation fast attack submarine. This is an opportunity to get involved at the beginning of a new design and have influence over what will become the Navy's premier attack submarine platform. The position will work with multi-discipline teams on incorporation of Ao design principles. They will engage with shipyard, customers and other stakeholders to collect feedback for design incorporation, and challenge design decisions to deviate from standard practice to realize lifecycle cost improvements.

The Role

The Role
Quality Management Systems (Dept. O31) is responsible for all ISO 17025 laboratories at Newport News Shipbuilding. The laboratory is accredited for two programs that are based on ISO 17025 via AIHA and VELAP. In addition, O31 is the quality and technical lead for Calibration accreditation which is currently through the Navy's program (NAVSEA 4734C), but this accreditation may also be moved to ISO 17025 in the future. ISO 17025 is similar to ISO 9001, but more specific for laboratories. O31 has a robust quality management program within the department with dedicated staff to ensure unique quality requirements are met in lab processes
Priority responsibilities for this position include:
Financial management of department budgets for direct & overhead work. O31 provides services to all NNS programs and therefore has budgets on each major program. In addition, O31 has substantial responsibilities for overhead functions such as testing to support facilities (HRSD, gases, drains, environmental permit), receipt inspection (stock materials, weld wire) and calibrations services.
Supports NNS leadership in investigations related to materials and processes within the shipyard using the unique technical and diagnostic capabilities of the laboratory staff and equipment. Due to expertise in chemistry, metallurgy and special/engineering test methods, it is common for O31 personnel to be the go to experts on many unexpected material or process issues that arise during construction processes. The O31 manager is involved to organize the capabilities of the lab to meet these challenges in a timely fashion.
NAVSEA Water Chemistry manual test methods are followed by the Water Chemistry section of the laboratory. O31 provide chemicals and testing of propulsion plant systems for all CVN and SSN vessels at NNS. The personnel in this section are qualified to the Water Chemistry manual requirements and subject to audit by Naval Reactors. This section also provides 24/7 coverage during certain plant testing cycles.
Other responsibilities include: Develops, maintains and ensures compliance with quality assurance programs, policies, processes, procedures and that the performance and quality of products conform to established standards, specifications and agency guidelines. Provides expertise and guidance in interpreting policies, regulatory and/or governmental regulations, and agency guidelines to assure compliance. Works directly with operating entities to ensure that inspections, process control analyses or audits are conducted on a continuing basis as specified to enforce requirements and meet specifications. Ensures the quality assurance programs and policies are maintained and modified regularly. Establishes and ensures that inspections are conducted prior to the processing of raw materials, ingredients, product and package specifications, frequently at vendor/supplier locations. May serve as liaison between the company and the various governmental agencies

A general knowledge of calibration methods and quality controls unique to calibration programs. O31 is currently the technical leader for all NNS calibrations which are accomplished by both O31 and X36 calibration technicians and NNS vendors. As technical leader, O31 develops calibration procedures, interfaces with calibration regulators (NAVSEA), evaluates calibration vendors, investigates out of tolerance conditions and provides technical guidance to engineers, programs and calibration technicians.

What We're Looking For:

What You Will Do
Conducts multi-disciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and use of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
Conducts software maintenance to improve performance. Ensures software standards are met. Analyzes user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
Implements Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) to provide an open systems approach for military aviation solutions, delivering software-defined capabilities to the end user faster and more affordably. Plans and implements technology insertion and refresh to improve system capabilities.
Confers with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and others to design the system and obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces.
Designs, develops, and modifies software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design.
Coordinates software system installations and monitors equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met. Incorporates software development best practices to include agile, Development Operations (DevOps), and Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps).
May develop software for image and video manipulation and enhancement.
What We Are Looking For
5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
Programming skills: Strong programming skills in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, C++
Excellent problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex software issues.
2-3 years of experience in software development or a related field
Knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, or Scrum.
Demonstrated command of engineering principles, methods, and techniques in area of expertise.

The Role
Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. The Role
Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. The Role
Prepares and coordinates the plans and schedules for new or existing programs. Determines, monitors, and reviews costs, operational budgets and schedules, and manpower requirements. Supports and participates in negotiations with customer. The Role
Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule and cost constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Job Description
HII Mission Technologies Division's Fighters, Advanced Aircraft, and Bombers Team seeks a Configuration Analyst to perform Configuration and Data Management (CDM) activities for the Propulsion Directorate. In this role, you would be a part of the team that is developing the next generation of aircraft engines for the US Air Force!
In this role, you will perform as a subject matter expert of the acquisition lifecycle, providing guidance in executing CDM in line with industry standards, DoD policies and Air Force/AFLCMC instructions. You would provide acquisition expertise in the development of program requirements, SOW/PWS development, RFP packages, and Contract Data Requirement Lists. Furthermore, you will assist in the execution of technical evaluations to assess proposed actions to contract requirements.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Develop, plan, and coordinate preparation of project documentation, such as engineering drawings, production specifications and schedules, and contract modifications, to ensure customer contract requirements are met
Review contracts to determine documentation required for each phase of project, applying knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes
Analyze proposed changes of product design to determine effect on overall product and system
Support Configuration Control Board (CCB) via meeting attendance, capturing meeting minutes, and recording approved changes
Prepare for, conduct, and/or support major audits such as Physical Configuration Audits (PCA) or Functional Configuration Audits (FCA)
Assist the Government in developing and administering CM plans; maintaining design traceability and integrity; convening and managing change boards; and preparing for and attending major events including, but not limited to, Technical Interchange Meetings, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, PCAs, FCAs, and CCBs
Assist the Government with configuration control for Electronic Records Management (ERP) and IT systems - This shall include configuration planning, data analysis, maintenance of configuration documentation and data, and maintaining inventory/configuration status
Review and analyze the weapon system development/sustainment contractor's CM program and data deliveries for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
Maintain CM files including configuration identification, change control, and status accounting records
Report the weapon system development/sustainment contractor's data delivery status
Review and analyze of the weapon system development/sustainment contractor's conformance to CDRL requirements
Minimum Qualifications
10 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 8 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant experience

CM experience within the DoD environment
Experience performing the technical administrative activities necessary to manage CM tools for inventory control, version control, data duplication, and media labeling
Experience producing release notes and CM reports

Experience developing briefings for management
Understanding of all phases of the DoD's acquisitions life cycle

Summary
Currently seeking an experienced welder in support of U.S. Army Watercraft to support Field Level Watercraft Maintenance and Repair Services at Joint Base Langley Eustis to maintain fleet readiness.
What You Will Do...
Master understanding of production and processes and the ability to read blue prints, technical manuals and drawings in support of Field Level Repairs and preventative maintenance checks and services. Responsible for interfacing with ship's force, working in a team environment, understanding of ABS requirement specific to welding and fitup requirements, the ability to receive work direction from others or to provide direction to others. At times, there will be more than one job or work order to manage and plan for. Have skillful knowledge of trade functions, understanding and experience with tools required to support job, and the ability to maintain and conduct required maintenance to tools. Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks. Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management. May perform quality inspections on finished product. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
What You Must Have...
High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
Previous pipe welding experience.
Must be able to obtain and maintain welding qualifications within thirty (30) calendar days of starting.
Experience welding MIG and TIG on various types of metals.
Must be able to calibrate and make repairs as needed on tools and equipment. Ability to ensure all welding equipment is maintained and certified.
Must be able to read blueprints, technical manuals, schematics or drawings, and/or related technical documentation.
Must be able to obtain and maintain DBIDS badge.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
Must have understanding of production and fit up experience.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred: Bonus Points For...
Prior U.S. Army Watercraft experience.
Prior marine welding experience.
Prior experience welding with Army certification 88L30.
Prefer technical/professional certifications.
A current, valid DoD security clearance.

The Role
Prepares and coordinates the plans and schedules for new or existing programs. Determines, monitors, and reviews costs, operational budgets and schedules, and manpower requirements. Supports and participates in negotiations with customer. Analyzes effects of projects upon various areas such as Engineering, Facilities, and the labor pool to determine the most practical and cost-efficient methods to obtain the required resources. Resolves proposal preparation problems and assesses the progress against established plans and parameters. Formulates and recommends corrective action measures such as schedule revisions, manpower adjustments, fund allocations, and work requirements.
This position is part of the Newport News Shipbuilding Nuclear Reactor Servicing Engineering Products Group who provide services and support to all department teams. This role is expected to perform the duties of the Contracts Support and Contracts Management (CSCM) for the department as detailed in SSW E-1306.1. Within that role, this individual should have a working knowledge of the planning and scoping process for the Nuclear Propulsion Division and be able to provide historical spending and cost reporting to support labor resource planning development, budgeting, and progressing for the department. In addition to the CSCM role, this position is expected to provide ancillary support in the development of planning agendas including those supporting the Project Integration Team (PIT) detailed in Section 2.10.1 of the Manual for Control of Refueling.
