Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants are eligible for $5,000 sign on bonus

The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled clinical professional that works within the scope of practice and in alignment with the standards of excellence and quality. The Medical Assistant provides indirect and/or direct patient care under the direction of the provider.

Under the direction of the provider, contributes to the completion of the patient's chief complaint (including but not limited to respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight and temperature) and documentation of patient/family needs. Identifies significant changes in patient condition through data collection and reports them to the provider. Understands and adheres to the legal responsibilities and requirements within the Medical Assistant role.

Under the direction of the provider, participates in planning and implementing care for patients within the scope of Medical Assisting practice. Troubleshoots issues and escalate problems to provider, direct supervisor, or appropriate internal resource. Demonstrates standards of excellence in care in all interactions, for both internal and external customers.

Within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines, administers ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topically, as directed. May performing casting duties according to state regulations and appropriate certification requirements.

Documents in EMR accurately and appropriately. Manages My Chart request and incoming patient calls. Manages in basket messages under the Provider's verbatim instructions.

Other duties include but not limited to ordering supplies appropriately, tracking referrals, labs and diagnostic tests, disposing contaminated supplies, etc.

Licensing/Certification

Medical Assisting certification (required within 9 months of placement in MA role): Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assisting), Registered Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologists), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (National Healthcareer Association, or National Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing). If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable within same time period.

BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, required prior to independent patient care).

Education: High school degree, preferred vocational/technical degree in medical assisting. Enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program (required within 30 days of employment)

Minimum Experience: One year of healthcare experience, or 24 months of clerical physician practice experience preferred.

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Special Procedures and Cath Lab Technologist will assist the Licensed Practitioner in the completion of fluoroscopic and specialized interventional and Neuro-Interventional procedures while using sterile technique. They prepare, administer and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations or facility policy.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs high quality diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to evaluate the cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, peripheral venous systems and adheres to exam protocols except when deviation is clinically necessary.

  • Prepares patients for procedures, including explaining the procedure and providing instructions in order to obtain the desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize patient anxiety.

  • Contacts referring physician (or other appropriate medical personnel) for clarification prior to performing an exam if there is a suspicion that the exam order is incorrect.

  • Utilizes the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter preliminary reporting, and document any critical findings in accordance with department policy.

  • Completes assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation.

The Polysomnographic Trainee works under the general supervision of the Manager of Cardiopulmonary Services and the Coordinator of the Sleep Improvement Center. Works under the direct supervision of a RPSGT. Develops competency in and performs the basics of polysomnographic testing and associated interventions; i.e., polysomnography, EEG, oximetry and electromy graphics to assist in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of sleep and sleep related disorders. Licensing/Certification

Medical Assisting certification (required within 9 months of placement in MA role): Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assisting), Registered Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologists), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (National Healthcareer Association, or National Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing). If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable within same time period.

Coordinate all Inspire sleep apnea device inquiries. PRIMARY FUNCTION/GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Surgery Scheduling Specialist is responsible for accurately scheduling all inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures. This position would also notify physicians of scheduled procedures and any changes to the schedule. The surgery scheduling specialist would be responsible for verifying patient benefits and precertification from the insurance company when necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate and schedule surgeries and procedures as designated by physicians.

  • Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff both within the practice and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • 6 months experience as a medical receptionist with strong knowledge of coding.

Job Description

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

Working under the direction of the Communications Center Manager and Communications Center Supervisors, the Transport Medicine System Status Controller is responsible for receiving requests for ground and air ambulance services via telephone and radio, determining appropriate response, entering information in the Computer-Aided Dispatch System, selecting and dispatching the appropriate unit(s) to the call and ensure related billing documentation is completed accurately.

Essential Job Functions

  • Receives all incoming telephone inquiries and requests for assistance regarding patient transport in a timely, professional, and courteous manner

  • Maintains professional radio and phone communication utilizing excellent customer service skills when interacting with administration, transport teams, requesting agencies, hospital staff, physicians, and public safety personnel

  • Triages all requests for transport and accurately enters all required information into the Computer-Aided Dispatch System

  • Maintains all required records and other documentation associated with patient transport and the operation of the Communication Center

  • Ensures all billing paperwork is completed accurately

  • Maintains updated knowledge of all communications equipment to operate and request service calls when appropriate and ensure intelligent reporting of equipment failures

  • Activates transport teams and accurately relays information concerning the location and condition of the patient, when possible. Initiates appropriate protocols regarding notification and determination of patient destination

  • Maintains knowledge of the Mercy Health Transport Medicine Emergency Response Plan. Participates in quality management, emergency-procedure testing, and annual Emergency Response Plan drills

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of all policies, procedures and protocols for operation of Mercy Health - Transport Medicine program and regulated transport activities. Has a functional understanding of state and local EMS regulations, local EMS structure, and protocol and procedures in service area

  • Demonstrates critical thinking abilities when triaging patient transports and making decisions. Makes decisions in an independent and high stress environment

  • Maintains constant radio contact with transport teams and documents contact with teams consistent with the current policy and procedure for flight and ground tracking. Remains at dispatch station at all times when any helicopter is airborne

Licensing/Certification

BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required)

Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) - Various (preferred at time of hire; required within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment)

Ohio Paramedic - Ohio Emergency Medical Services (preferred)

Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required)

Associates, Healthcare, Public Safety, or a related field (preferred)

Work Experience

1 year of experience in EMS, healthcare, public safety, or a related field (required)

1 years of previous EMS or public safety dispatching experience (preferred)
