JOB DESCRIPTION

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the integration, facilitation, and coordination of the management and clinical activities of the nursing unit(s) with twenty-four hour accountability. Provides management and clinical support to other nursing units and house wide as required. Serves as a professional role model, mentor, and clinical resource/educator for nurses and other members of the health care team. Develops unit goals and objectives with other staff based on analysis of clinical and managerial processes to improve patient outcomes and create a culture of excellence. Represents the unit and is a liaison to internal and external customers. Participates in professional development activities and is active on hospital-wide committees. Demonstrates various styles of management. Participates in unit(s) budget development, responsible for monitoring and variance analysis.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing. A Bachelors in Nursing (BSN) or a Master's of Nursing (MSN) is required*.

  • Must possess current license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Virginia or awaiting reciprocity.

  • Maintains current CPR certification.

  • Work requires knowledge of organization and operation of a patient care unit and nursing care techniques and methods. Possesses knowledge generally acquired through three to five years experience as a professional nurse, with progressively more responsible experience in appropriate specialty area.

  • Must have a broad based knowledge of clinical, psychosocial, and patho/physiological theories relating to nursing diagnosis and treatment. Possesses the ability to perform the range of nursing techniques found in general nursing practice including the unusual and non-routine as normally acquired through three to five years experience as a professional nurse.

  • Previous work experience in a supervisory or charge nurse position that required knowledge of financial management and personnel supervision and practice.

Essential Functions:

  • Cleans, sterilizes, assembles, tests, and maintains par levels of equipment.

  • Orders, maintains, and delivers oxygen. Complies with regulatory and governing body requirements, including but not limited to DOT and FDA regulations, related to oxygen and other hazardous material.

  • Provides maintenance of and arranges for the repair of broken equipment.

  • Receives for respiratory supplies and equipment deliveries.

  • May provide office or warehouse tasks to include labeling storage bins, shelves, or other inventory locations.

  • Fills orders for respiratory supplies and equipment.

  • May setup and remove equipment and supplies.

  • Based on setting, may load/unload delivery vehicle, deliver and pick up home medical equipment (HME). May provide patient instruction on the installation and operation of HME equipment. Maintains safe operation of delivery vehicle by complying with organization operational policies, procedures, and standards, as well as state and local driving rules and regulations.

Education:

  • High School/GED (required)

Required Licensing & Certifications:

  • BLS Basic Life Support- American Heart Association (preferred)

  • Valid driver's license in state of residence (required for DME setting)

Job Summary:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner I is responsible for providing respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. Performs all respiratory care procedures including but not limited to oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services and patient and staff education. Monitors the patient's response to such therapies and makes recommendations to change or modify based on the assessment.

Essential Functions:

  • May serve as a preceptor to new team members and/or students.

  • Assesses patient's physical status by inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion, patient behavior and reviewing existing data in patient's record.

  • Performs treatments according to physician orders, explains therapy and therapeutic goals to patient; modifies treatment procedures based on patient response.

  • Determines appropriateness of prescribed therapy and recommends methods to physician to achieve therapeutic goals including IPPB, Aerosol therapy, Postural drainage and percussion, ultrasonic nebulizer, incentive spirometry, metered dose inhalers and spacers, etc.

  • Sets up and maintains different modes of oxygen therapy, to maintain adequate PaO2's with accurate inspired levels of oxygen.

  • Administers intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) or Aerosol Therapy by first preparing the prescribed medication ordered by the physician and adjusting the machine or device to accomplish patient's individual clinical needs; document and observe patient's vital signs, productivity of cough, relief of Dyspnea, improved breath sounds and any adverse reactions to therapy; and use judgement and technical skill to determine possible adverse reactions and suggestions for appropriateness of therapy.

  • Gives postural drainage, vibration, percussion to ensure proper drainage of bronchial secretions by use of manual or mechanical percussion; check orders and X-rays for segments to be treated prior to initiating treatment; auscultation prior to and after procedure to note presence of clearance of secretions and response to therapy.

  • Instructs patients and families in incentive spirometer, metered dose inhaler (MDI) administration, postural drainage and clapping, oxygen therapy, ventilator care and home aerosol therapy.

  • May assist doctor with bronchoscopy and tracheostomy; assists with tracheostomy endotracheal tube changes; ensures proper humidification.

  • Procurement of sputum for culture and sensitivity or airway clearance either by patient coaching, administration of mucolytics, aerosol therapy or endotracheal / nasopharyngeal suctioning.

  • Evaluates normal and pathologic blood and urine laboratory value ranges.

  • Performs arterial punctures and analysis; has an in-depth knowledge of analysis and arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation. Performs arterial line procedures, takes safety precautions, sterile procedure, flushing, and ABG aspirations.

  • May perform EKG's; understands electronic monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmias.

  • Maintains all Respiratory Therapy equipment and supplies.

  • Responds to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations and actively participates as indicated by clinical circumstances.

Education:

  • Graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care (required)

  • Bachelor's Degree, Related to Respiratory Therapy/Health care/Healthcare Admin/Business Admin (preferred)

Required Licensing & Certifications:

  • Current Respiratory Care License in the state they are working (required)

  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed (required)

Job Summary:

Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

- Observes the surgery and surgical team from a broad perspective and assists the team to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for the patient.

- Provides preop, intraop, and post-op care, including assessment and discharge instructions.

- Assess the patient's condition before, during, and after the operation to ensure an optimal outcome for the patient.

- Anticipates the scrub nurse's needs and opens sterile packs, operates equipment, and keeps accurate records.

- Responsible for reprocessing if on Endoscopy team.

- BSMH nurses are expected to practice and deliver care in accordance with the core concepts and intention of the BSMH Nursing Professional Practice Model.

Job Summary:

The Cardiac Sonographer performs diagnostic, non-invasive and invasive cardiac exams on patients using ultrasound testing equipment to evaluate the heart. The testing modalities include Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Cardiac Stress testing.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs diagnostic echocardiography examinations using ultrasound testing equipment to evaluate the heart during Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Cardiac Stress testing examinations.

  • Acts as a professional representative of Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and St. Rita's Medical Center to the community.

  • Cooperates with all ancillary and support services.

  • Assists in maintaining the vehicle, equipment, and supplies as defined by departmental policy and procedures.

  • Facilitates the needs of Life Flight patients and their families during hospitalization at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and St. Rita's Medical Center; communicates with other hospital departments as necessary to facilitate those needs.

  • Communicates with EMS and hospital requestors as needed in order to care appropriately for transported patients.

  • Acts as an educator to professional groups and the EMS in our service area; promotes Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and St. Rita Medical Center as the regional referral centers.

  • Attends internal and external educational meetings, keeps current in knowledge, skills, and clinical competencies through professional journals, professional organizations, etc. Participates in department standing and ad hoc committees.

  • Travels to assigned base sites with the understanding that daily assignments may change as dictated by staffing issues, mechanical issues with the aircraft or mobile units.

  • Adheres to all Medical Directives, written policies and procedures for the Critical Care Transport Network, including crewmember weight policy for aviation operations.

  • Completes annual flight crewmember training if oriented to flight environment.

  • Interprets information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific need: a) neonatal b) pediatric c) adolescent d) adult e) geriatric.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited paramedic program

  • At least 3 years Paramedic field experience

  • Current license as a Paramedic from the State of Ohio

  • CAMTS approved advanced certification (FP-C or CCP-C) required or obtained within 1 year of hire.

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification required.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required.

  • Basic Trauma Life Support certification or equivalent required within 6 months of hire.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 6 months of hire.

  • Neonatal Advanced Life Support Certification required

  • BCLS instructor preferred

  • ACLS Instructor certification preferred

Job Summary:
