Phlebotomist reports to department leader with no direct reports.

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs routine and special blood specimen collection for all age specific patients.

ACCOUNTABILITIES - All Essential to the Role

Collects products or specimens for basic procedures and may perform point-of-care testing using proper techniques. Follows strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis. Assists in the care of the patient prior to, during and after specimen collection. Determines, from like samples, combinations of tests and the associated acceptable minimum volumes. Knowledgeable of pre-analytic variables, which may affect specimen analysis. Familiar with test synonyms and abbreviations, and cross-referencing tests to specimen types. Utilizes laboratory computer information system to include all work aides and shortcuts within the system. Utilizes quality assurance data to enhance the services rendered by the section. Recommends changes in procedures to address quality issues and provide customer/patient satisfaction. Performs and documents quality control procedures. Acts as a resource and is a liaison between phlebotomy staff and Laboratory /Point of Care Team. Cross trained in defined core job functions and patient care departments. Routinely perform difficult specimen collections, such as re-draws and misses. Assists in the training of new associates or students. As needed, performs all pre-analytic tasks associated with sample preparation including, but not limited to, centrifugation, decanting, and specimen packaging. Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies by attending mandatory in-services and continuing laboratory education and participating in continuous quality improvement. Maintains and upgrades personal professional development. Maintains appropriate par levels and organizes supplies and equipment in work areas as assigned. Notifies appropriate associate when re-order levels are reached, and equipment needs to be repaired. Maintains protocols and procedures for excellent patient care and follows guidelines for infection control management. Demonstrates good teamwork. Willingly accepts adjustments to assignments and adapts willingly to changes in workflow and processes. Provides excellent customer service incorporating ProMedica's core values. Performs other duties as directed or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or Equivalent.

License/Certification/Experience:

A diploma from an accredited phlebotomy training institute OR one year phlebotomy experience.

Successful completion of an academic program which included substantial practical clinical phlebotomy experience (i.e.: 3+ week clinical student rotation program in a hospital setting).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional registration preferred [i.e., PBT(ASCP)]

1 year experience in a high-volume phlebotomy environment

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment: Employee will follow policy and wear all PPE as recommended.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to continuously move between hospital departments, and floors while maintaining confidentiality on workstations.

Must be able to understand directions and be able to communicate and respond to

inquiries between all levels of hospital staffing, patient care and requires effective interpersonal skills.

Must be able to tolerate exposure to disease bearing specimens, blood, and body

fluids, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low level radiation, electrical hazards, and flammable liquids. Must be prepared to wear appropriate PPE and follow PPE guidelines.

Must be able to differentiate colors.

Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.

Must be able to move, push, lift or carry materials or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.,

up to 75% of the time.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time, potentially 100% of shift.

Shifts for this position are 12 hours in length, covering the patient care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays and weekends.

Job Description

Serves as the initial laboratory contact for internal and external healthcare providers, workers, patients and clients. Provides direction and expertise across the continuum of laboratory services. Handles highly confidential information, solves problems of a general nature and facilitates reporting of patient laboratory results.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Receives incoming phone calls for patient information, test results, phlebotomy services for acute care inpatients, homebound patients and ambulatory outpatients, courier services, various problems and special requests. Utilizes a variety of phlebotomy services, draw site locations, various hours of operation and testing menus to meet the requirements of the specific patient. Effectively communicates with clients to clarify patient information or to provide pertinent requestor information. Makes outgoing calls to physicians or patients when an error occurs to request a recollection. Communicates general information to medical, paramedical and lay individuals.

  2. Utilizes multiple computer systems to investigate and resolve problems, such as missing specimens, delayed test results/reports, incorrect testing performed, incorrect patient demographics and/or account information.

  3. Functions as resource for other ProMedica labs in report retrieval, problem investigation, resolution and test results reporting.

  4. Phones and/or faxes results, many critical or stat in nature, to clients. Monitors stat and critical value broadcast printer and call/fax logs to expedite the process.

  5. Utilizes various computers and resources to provide information regarding test results, specimen requirements, collection instructions, turnaround times, reference ranges, etc. Provides support to various hospitals, departments and individuals regarding ordering of tests and billing information.

  6. Assists in retrieval of specimen to be used for additional tests that are ordered; contacting patients, providers, other laboratory employees, as needed.

  7. Maintains knowledge of test synonyms, abbreviations and cross-referencing tests to specimen and container types.

  8. Performs lab registration of patients, merging of patient accounts, as required for troubleshooting.

  9. Responsible for the tracking of specimens, billing and distribution of results from testing sent to various reference laboratories.

  10. Generates and distributes patient reports, billing reports, work aids and/or logs, etc. Performs miscellaneous duties, such as tabulating tests for periodic reporting, billing, dispatching of phlebotomists and/or couriers, general filing, etc.

  11. Complies with requirements of accreditation (The Joint Commission, CAP) and regulatory agencies by attending in-services and continuing lab education, participating in process improvement teams and maintaining hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, and infection control. Agrees to comply with HIPAA guidelines and PHI policies.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position plays a critical role in advancing ProMedica's mission by securing and stewarding philanthropic support for the Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital and ProMedica Monroe Community Hospital Foundations. The executive director role will be a key facilitator at the board and hospital leadership level and will serve as a liaison to multiple volunteer committees and at external community events. Alongside other team members, the executive director will provide strategy and implementation of all facets of philanthropy ranging from annual fund, events to capital initiatives.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsible for providing leadership support for philanthropy-related activity to the executive leadership and governance boards and committees at each assigned business unit. Maintains a good working relationship with business unit senior leadership. Works closely with hospital and department leaders for donor stewardship engagement and updates. Actively manages assigned donor and prospect accounts - participating in new donor identification/discovery, existing donor cultivation, gift solicitation, and stewardship following gifts. In this role, maintains current and timely donor notes in the philanthropy software database, as well as prepares and executes donor cultivation plans leading to solicitation. Actively participates as philanthropy liaison to committees planning special event fundraisers and any capital campaigns of assigned business units. In this role, coordinates with appropriate colleagues within the philanthropy division. Cultivates personal relationships with governance volunteers on the business unit and foundation boards. When appropriate, solicits annual fund contributions from these stakeholders. Supports the philanthropy team by providing counsel to peers as required and assistance with special projects as requested, such as Annual Fund Appeal. Coordinates business unit calendars for philanthropy activities, including informational and fundraising communications, special events, grateful patient events, etc. Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in relevant field of study and three years or more experience in a sophisticated development, customer service, sales, business role; healthcare-related preferred.

As a Housekeeper, you will clean and prepare areas in order to maintain clean and sanitary conditions for guest, patient, and staff occupancy. Provide general cleaning and services to patient rooms, rest rooms, nurses' stations, corridors, conference rooms, utility rooms, treatment areas, kitchens, solariums, offices, lobbies, lounges, stairwells and waiting rooms.

A Patient Care Tech (PCT), under the direction of licensed personnel, performs various patient care activities necessary in caring for a patient or a group of patients and performs clerical/receptionist services as required responsible for working a combination of nights, weekends, and holidays.
