  • Valid Driver's license.

  • Experience with various types of pipe and fitment techniques, including screw pipe, grooved, compression, fusion, glue, sweat, braze and weld, of various materials including steel, copper, plastic, fiberglass etc, with diameters ranging from - to 6- or greater.

  • Hands-on experience with demolition and installation of various types of commercial HVAC equipment and related processes.

  • Experience with Sheet metal ductwork fabrication and installation (not required, but a plus).

  • Experience with electrical and controls installation (not required, but a plus).

  • Must be able to pass a government background check, drug test and other site pre-access requirements.

  • Apprenticeship program (not required, but a plus).

  • OSHA 10 training (not required, but a plus).

  • Position requires a willingness to travel to project locations when assigned to work on projects that require onsite presence for extended project durations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with HVAC Foreperson and project team to ensure material and equipment needs are identified and scheduled prior to start of actual work.

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, project specifications, and equipment submittals.

  • Utilize construction plans to layout and install HVAC equipment and supports.

  • Lay-out, fabricate, install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related domestic water, hydronic and pneumatic system. Systems will vary in complexity, size, and pressure rating.

  • Lay-out, fabricate, install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain ductwork for ventilation applications. These systems will vary in complexity, size, and rating.

  • Must be able to work well with others and be able to take direction.

  • Train apprentices in work-related areas to enhance installation knowledge, productivity, and safety.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills; Able to effectively allocate and develop resources.

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and professional.

  • Maintain safe work environment by complying with safety policies and procedures.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be physically capable of walking, stooping, crawling, climbing, kneeling, crouching, handling, reaching, depth perception, field of vision, balancing, hearing, and talking.

McIntosh Combustion Turbine Plant (MCT)

Job Summary

The O&M Manager at McIntosh CT is responsible for managing the short and long-term activities involved in operating and maintaining the McIntosh CT plant in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner while ensuring compliance with all laws, regulations, and environmental requirements. The CT O&M Manager is accountable for setting the direction, supporting, and leading the plant on a daily basis. This position will set and communicate strategic direction for MCT, manage both capital and O&M budgets, and provide effective performance management and employee development. This position is responsible for providing leadership and overall guidance in support/communication of the goals and strategic initiatives of McIntosh Combustion Turbine Plant, Georgia Power Coastal Generation and Georgia Power.

The McIntosh Combustion Turbine Plant (Effingham County, GA) consists of eight (8) ABB GT 11N1 combustion turbines (80 MWs each) capable of running on both natural gas and liquid fuel.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering (or equivalent) is preferred

  • Extensive experience in Operations and/or Maintenance is preferred

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a supervisory role with performance management responsibilities required; experience leading covered employees desired

  • Demonstrated performance management skills, holding others accountable for business results, ability to motivate team members to achieve high standards

  • Knowledge of plant safety, environmental and regulatory compliance requirements is preferred

  • Working knowledge of IBEW contract and applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory laws

This position serves as a liaison between our pipeline contractors and Southern Company Gas to complete capital construction pipeline work.

Responsibilities:

Create New Business work requests in Gas Request per approved BCA (Business Case Authorization). Ensure building points are created and advance work requests from initiation to schedule status

Process New Business extension contracts, verify contribution in aid of construction (CIAC) information, and submit funds to Accounting

Process inbound credit card payments for CIACs and process refunds to customers due to project changes

Print, update, and distribute service cards to service centers. This process includes researching premise information via County GIS mapping, navigating the Southern Company Gas work management information system (WMIS) to update service cards, and pulling engineering drawings needed per the operations procedure manual (OPM)

Process invoices, analyze and resolve invoice discrepancies or missing data via recycle report

Identify payment delays through invoice aging reports and ensure compliance with contracted payment terms

Update Compliance Tracking System with pipeline contractor qualifications as well as issue plastic and steel fusion cards to qualified contractor employees

Second validate OJQ (Operator Joining Qualifications) Testing information to include pipe sizing and joining type

Maintain a service line tracking database for the collection of asset information for mains and services installed

Identify, analyze, and correct meter express interface exceptions for BCAs, MOIS and MOPS, and CC&B errors using Contractor Portal, Gas Request, CC&B, meter history, and meter management applications

Research and package all invoices and corresponding supporting data for any requests from internal audit or for the GA PSC quarterly audits of the Pipeline Replace Program

Work the CIM (consumption at an inactive meter) report each day to ensure no loss of revenue for the company

Verify that cancelled BCAs (Business Case Authorization) do not have charges in PeopleSoft, close AFE (authorization for expenditure)

Set up and maintain all projects in WMIS system, which includes understanding contract terms and conditions and timely creation of spot contracts with correct unit quantities and unit bid prices

Second validate spot contracts in WMIS to ensure correct quantities and pricing

Update premise information as requested via GIS Notification due to pipeline contractor errors (work request errors, missing meter information, AC code changes, service card errors, crossed meters, etc.)

Work various reports to ensure meter information is captured (pending meter report, cut and cap report, meter removal report)

Complete work request to history transactions. Review work requests that are in closed status and ensure all invoices are paid, identify and resolve errors, and workflow work request status from closed to history

Plant Vogtle I&C Technicians will be responsible for:

Education Requirements:

Assists in performing regular meter inspections, paints and maintenance of above and below ground gas systems.

Responds to questions from customers and provides answers directly or by referral.

Provide assistance with all distribution activities involved with the installation, repair and maintenance of the distribution system to include:

Traffic control

Landscaping and general maintenance

Digging, shoring, repairing leaks, testing and wrapping pipes

Pressure recording devices

Uses a variety of tools (hand, air, shovels, etc.) while performing distribution crew activities.

Supervises employees and contractors performing various tasks. Supervises employees in the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of natural gas mains and service lines, to turn gas service on and off, install and remove meters, identify, classify, and repair gas leaks for residential, commercial, and industrial customers during routine and emergency conditions. Ensures safety of personnel and compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and Company rules and regulations.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages route coordination for employees and contractors.

  • Manages internal and external personnel to meet forecasted demand.

  • Responsible for daily meter reading tasks; route uploads and downloads; employee and contractor route information.

  • Supervises daily and long-range activities to install, maintain, repair, and remove gas pipeline facilities below and above ground; resolves leak problems; oversees maintenance of meter reading equipment. Schedules employees and contractors; assigns tasks.

  • Oversees contractors (i.e., leak survey, paving); reviews performance; approves invoices for payment.

  • Manages and maintains vehicles (e.g., crew, emergency, boom trucks; backhoe, Kubota). Coordinates maintenance schedules.

  • Ensures compliance with local, state, federal regulations: company policies and procedures. Updates manuals, records, and systems. Coordinates and administers training for certifications and qualifications.

  • Serves as liaison to fire departments, police departments, Department of Transportation, business, civic and community organizations.

  • Accountable for identification and classification of gas leaks; coordinates repairs and manages documentation.

  • Manages gas related emergencies.

  • Supervises personnel who perform the following:

  • Turns gas service on or off at customer's request; turns service off because of non-payment.

  • Performs minor gas repairs at customer's request.

  • Installs, maintains, changes, and removes meters.

  • Repairs mains and service lines as required.

  • Works with Region Director in the evaluation and development of resource supply plans, including assessment of training needs and priorities, certification requirements and other non-availabilities impacting service center demand forecasts.

  • Participates in planning meetings to evaluate barriers and provide recommendations for work planning.

  • Performs expediting function in support of employees and business objectives according to daily/weekly work plans.

  • Ensures safety of personnel and compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and Company rules and regulations.

  • Responds to and helps resolve escalated customer complaints (e.g., damage to property, high gas bills, loss of service; meter sets, transfers, removes, retires, meters in stock, paint meter, corrosion orders).

  • Provides assistance to other Service Centers as required.

  • Coordinates V-Force activities.

  • Prepares and administers budget (e.g., employees and contractors, tools, equipment, vehicles) according to plan. Monitors budget variances. Provides explanations on variances and takes appropriate action.

  • Supervises staff selection, development, and retention. Establishes and monitors work goals and objectives.

  • Regularly engages staff in the assessment and evaluation of performance and development objectives. Provides performance feedback and coaching (oral and documented) to achieve organizational performance and behavioral expectations.

  • Follows organizational policies and procedures and ensures staff is in compliance.

  • Leads teams by example with regards to safety and vehicle operation

  • Supports staffing requirements by understanding and following Career Progression Model process.

  • Supports standardization by following established processes and escalates areas of opportunity through peers and Region Directors

JOB SUMMARY

The Telecom Field Operations Technician is responsible for the maintenance (both reactive and preventive) of Southern Company's voice, data, and telecommunications transport network devices. These networks include digital microwave, fiber optics, LANs (local area networks), and voice and data wireless systems. These systems are installed, maintained and repaired in accordance with established standards, service levels, operational processes, and applicable work agreements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Two-year degree (college/technical/vocational) or equivalent military training or equivalent hands-on experience in electronics is required.

  • Two-year degree (college/technical/vocational) or equivalent military training or equivalent hands-on experience in telecommunications is preferred.

  • Understanding of the various topologies, e.g. telecommunications (microwave and/or fiber), wireless, data and voice networks and how they interface with each other

  • Ability to logically troubleshoot and repair hardware and software associated with voice systems, data networks, telecommunications (microwave and/or fiber) systems and ancillary equipment (e.g., alarm systems, DC systems).

  • Working knowledge of radio communication systems. FCC or equivalent license for radio repair is preferred.
