Position summary: Junior level position (minimum 2 years' experience) responsible for carrying out various tasks including environmental investigations, permitting, and impact analysis. Provide support in conducting environmental planning studies and provide assistance on ecological restoration projects, when needed. Also has the ability to apply, with direction, knowledge of ecological and environmental practices and regulations to tasks performed. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Conducts research of designated environmental resources including wetlands, forests, streams, soils, plants, and wildlife

• Collects online data, composes, and analyzes environmental impact figures

• Collects data and field samples during field investigations

• Writes natural environmental technical reports, field delineation reports, impact assessments, environmental inspection reports, and similar reports with supervisory input and oversight

• Assists or manages with supervisory oversight various state, federal, and local regulatory permit application processes, such as Section 404/401, Endangered Species Act Section 7 & 10 Consultation, NPDES, Forest Conservation Act, Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, etc.

• Analyzes and manages data received from field investigations; determines the location, size, condition, and impacts to designated environmental resources

• Documents methodologies and findings of research and field investigations

• Assists with geomorphic surveys and design efforts in support of ecological restoration projects

• Participates in environmental compliance surveys (e.g., stormwater management facilities, erosion and sediment control procedures, design/build projects, etc.) and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments

• Assists in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP's

• Supports preparation of NEPA documents, including writing environmental setting and impact analyses sections

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment approximately 70% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Office work is performed with adequate lighting and temperature, with no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.

Field work is required approximately 30% of the time and is conducted outdoors in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Field work will require walking and carrying field equipment over typical outdoor terrain. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.

Vaughn & Melton, a JMT company, is currently seeking Surveying Technician I - Rodman/Instrument Operators for their Lexington, KY Office. The successful candidate for this position will adjust and operate surveying instruments, such as the theodolite and electronic distance-measuring equipment, and compiles notes, make sketches and enter data into computers. They will also assist the survey team by gathering and maintaining specified data for land surveying. Finally, they will complete simple routine tasks under close supervision. Position summary: Responsible for delivering all project objectives for assigned projects including; scope, schedule and budget.

• Develop drainage design and stormwater management design in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.

• Responsible for stormwater management, erosion and sedimentation control / NPDES permitting on transportation and other development projects

• Conduct watershed studies and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis

• Prepare Contract Documents including Plans, Specifications and Cost Estimates

• Design and inspect traditional and innovative green stormwater infrastructure and SWM BMPs in both urban and rural environments

• Coordination with contractors, outside consultants, government agencies, and JMT staff from multiple locations and technical disciplines

• Monitors schedules, budgets, accounts receivable and manpower requirements and prepares invoices.

• Detailed understanding of Microstation/Open Roads Designer, Civil 3D, GEOPAK/SUDA, Arc GIS, HEC-RAS, PC or XP-SWMM and proficiency in MS Word and Excel required

• Thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, working on multiple projects

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Knowledge and understanding of local TMDL action plans and MS4 permit compliance

• Working knowledge of Federal, State and local jurisdiction stormwater management and permitting regulations preferred
