JOB SUMMARY

The Project Control Analyst is responsible for leading and coordinating activities with engineering, customers, and resource allocation for Distribution projects in Power Delivery. This position will work with Engineers and Distribution Supervisors to ensure the continual accuracy of each project and schedule. In addition, this position monitors project progress, schedules, with special attention to customer commitment, and communicates accordingly with customers.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of related experience is preferred.

  • ARMS, JETS, CSS and Distview experience is a preferred.

  • Project scheduling experience highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of the Franchise Manual, Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook/Specifications, Distribution Operating

  • Experience with Power Delivery design and construction processes

The purpose of this position is to provide advanced-level administrative support to the EVP & Chief External/Public Affairs Officer and SVP, Corporate Strategy of Southern Company Gas. JOB SUMMARY

This position will perform protective relay calculations and coordination studies for Southern Company's transmission and distribution systems. This engineer will also perform engineering design and technical services for the specification, application and analysis of protective relaying, control and automation systems. The incumbent will provide technical expertise and support for design, construction, planning, marketing and customers regarding protection and control of Southern Company's transmission and distribution facilities.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design protective relay & control schemes and develop protective relay settings to protect and monitor the performance of electric power system facilities (transmission lines, distribution lines, and substation equipment).

  • Provide power system and protection engineering consulting services and technical assistance to other functional areas.

  • Investigate root cause of abnormal power system operations.

  • Review transmission system operations with emphasis on microprocessor relay event analysis.

  • Some travel for site visits, meetings, conferences, and training may be required.

  • For less experienced engineers, electrical engineering courses that will be helpful in this position will include Power System Analysis, Protective Relaying, Control Systems, Electric Machine Theory, and Symmetrical Components

Engineer/Computer Systems Analyst

This position provides IT support for operating issues affecting computer systems used to monitor and operate the bulk electric system for Southern Company. This position is responsible for the implementation, execution, and improvement of operational processes to ensure availability for all computer systems supported by the EMS department and used by Southern Company operating companies' transmission control centers (OPCO TCC's) as well as the power coordination center (PCC).

The specific duties of this position include both day-to-day operational support and 24x7 emergency support for the current Spectrum Power 3 and future OSI Monarch SCADA systems as well as other tools used to monitor and operate the bulk electric system. The duties include responsibility for supporting Windows PC deployment and troubleshooting, Virtualized Infrastructure support for Windows 10, RHEL 8, Windows Server, and VDI infrastructure. Additional responsibilities include user and certificate administration as well as other activities focused on support of the EMS Support Center and EMS department.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of computer system and application support

  • Proficient with basic Windows administration

  • Proficient working with UNIX/LINUX systems such as AIX and Red Hat is desirable

  • Understanding of physical/virtual servers and workstations maintenance

JOB SUMMARY

The Telecommunication Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance (both reactive and preventive) and project support on the Southern Company's voice, data, and telecommunications transport networks. These networks include analog and digital microwave, fiber optics, LANs (local area networks), and voice and data wireless systems. These systems are installed, maintained, and repaired in accordance with established standards, service levels, operational processes, and applicable work agreements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Two-year degree (college/technical/vocational) or 3 years of equivalent experience in electronics, telecommunications and/or computer technology is required.

  • FCC General Radiotelephone Operators License or equivalent license for radio repair is preferred, but not required for initial employment.

  • An FCC license or equivalent license will be required at the end of six months employment.

  • Technical knowledge and skills that would enable you to pass the Alabama Power Craft Knowledge and Skills test is required before employment (a study guide is provided).

  • Understanding of the various topologies, e.g., telecommunications, wireless, fiber optics, data, and voice networks and how they interface with each other is required.

  • Ability to logically troubleshoot and repair hardware and software associated with personal computers, peripheral devices, voice systems, data networks, telecommunications systems and ancillary equipment is required.
