Assistant Telecommunication Electrician
JOB SUMMARY
The Telecommunication Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance (both reactive and preventive) and project support on the Southern Company's voice, data, and telecommunications transport networks. These networks include analog and digital microwave, fiber optics, LANs (local area networks), and voice and data wireless systems. These systems are installed, maintained, and repaired in accordance with established standards, service levels, operational processes, and applicable work agreements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Two-year degree (college/technical/vocational) or 3 years of equivalent experience in electronics, telecommunications and/or computer technology is required.
FCC General Radiotelephone Operators License or equivalent license for radio repair is preferred, but not required for initial employment.
An FCC license or equivalent license will be required at the end of six months employment.
Technical knowledge and skills that would enable you to pass the Alabama Power Craft Knowledge and Skills test is required before employment (a study guide is provided).
Understanding of the various topologies, e.g., telecommunications, wireless, fiber optics, data, and voice networks and how they interface with each other is required.
Ability to logically troubleshoot and repair hardware and software associated with personal computers, peripheral devices, voice systems, data networks, telecommunications systems and ancillary equipment is required.
Working knowledge of fiber optic cables and systems, equipment, installation, and repair
Working knowledge of radio communication systems.
Knowledge of voice and data wireless systems and troubleshooting techniques.
Knowledge of data communications and packet switch networks.
Knowledge of PC hardware, operating systems, and associated peripheral and software components.
Must have demonstrated personal computer skills along with a general understanding of corporate applications and standard desktop products.
Ability to work independently, self -starter with good time management skills.
Must have good verbal and written communications skills.

Job Description (Transmission Planning Stability and Special Studies)
This position is best suited for an individual desiring a technical career path responsible for leading and performing power system technical studies in support of various groups within Southern Company. The group provides the ideal environment for power system engineers to pursue advanced academic degrees (e.g., Master's and/or Ph.D.) due to exposure to a wide range of power system subjects, including unique emerging technologies encountered in the modern electric utility industry.
The team is expanding its capabilities and expertise in the power quality area. The successful candidate will provide study support and leadership in this area, and be part of a team that performs harmonic power flow analyses, harmonic filter bank designs, flicker studies, voltage sag analyses, unbalanced power flow studies, post-event (root cause) analyses; and other special technical studies as required to support Southern Company and the Operating Companies.
The successful candidate will collaborate with multiple groups including other teams within System Planning, Transmission Control Centers, Research and Development, Operating Company Power Delivery and Generation departments, neighboring transmission systems, etc. The position will also be responsible for presenting study results to senior leadership, management, and internal and external customers for information and support.
Primary Job Responsibilities
The job will entail exposure to a wide range of power system analysis opportunities including:
Conduct or lead power quality studies (harmonics, flicker, filter design, etc.).
Analyze power quality modeling and study practices and provide recommendations to address modeling and study issues.
Represent Southern Company on applicable industry committees in a technical leadership role to provide guidance and ensure Sothern Company's business needs are being met.
Engage with equipment manufacturers, national laboratories, research institutions, and other industry groups.
Evaluate the impacts of increasing levels of harmonic-producing technologies and other emerging technologies to bulk power system (BPS) reliability. Engage and work with industry experts.
Prepare engineering analysis, studies, and technical reports. Develop guidelines or other technical documents as needed.
Collaborate with peers and industry to understand impacts of emerging technologies and support the reliable integration of these technologies.
Review, organize, and analyze study results to ensure product accuracy.
Research regulatory and industry initiatives affecting the power quality integrity of the BPS.
Coordinate with others in System Planning to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions.
Participate in regional and national organizations which are shaping the technical and regulatory policies such as NERC and SERC Working Groups/Task Forces, EPRI research initiatives, IEEE Standard development efforts, etc.
Perform other technical studies, as requested, in support of Southern Company and the Operating Companies.
Education and Professional Affiliation
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
Advanced degree (master's and/or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering with electric power systems emphasis is desired.
Work Experience
A successful candidate will have:
Understanding of power quality phenomena in the BPS, including analysis, recognition, and mitigation.
Experience with modeling power system-connected equipment and components for power quality studies.
Understanding of modeling techniques, including positive sequence and electromagnetic modeling tools such as PSCAD or EMTP-RV, etc.
General knowledge of transmission planning, electrical equipment, power system protection and control, and BPS operations.
Experience conducting root cause analysis to address power quality issues.
Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., IEEE, etc.).
Experience coordinating or leading teams of technical experts.

This Supervisor position is responsible for leading a team of engineers responsible for planning the bulk transmission system for Georgia Power Company, Alabama Power Company, and Mississippi Power Company; where the Team primary focus is System Stability (voltage stability, rotor angle stability, frequency stability, resonance stability, and converter-driven stability).

Job Description
This Supervisor position is responsible for leading a team of engineers responsible for performing studies to meet compliance requirements related to NERC reliability standards; where the Team primary focus is System Stability (voltage stability, rotor angle stability, frequency stability). The Team also provides significant NERC compliance study support (stability and special studies) for other teams within System Planning, Transmission Operations and Policy, Operating Company Power Delivery and Generation departments, neighboring transmission systems, etc.
This position will also direct, perform, or coordinate a wide range of additional technical studies, including studies to evaluate the effects of geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) events, stability analyses, and other special technical studies as required. The supervisor will review study results and provide summary reports and presentations for all levels of Southern Company management review.

Job Responsibilities
Provide leadership to ensure Transmission Planning meets compliance requirements related to NERC standards and develop subject matter expertise with respect to the list of standards applicable to Transmission Planner and Planning Coordinator roles.

JOB SUMMARY
The Telecommunication Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance (both reactive and preventive) and project support on the Southern Company's voice, data, and telecommunications transport networks. BESS Engineer OR Engineering Analyst (SPC Renewable Energy O&M)
JOB SUMMARY
This position manages the day-to-day operation and maintenance of renewable facilities (primarily Battery Energy Storage Systems) for Southern Power Company. Primary responsibilities include:
Supporting SPC O&M strategy for current and future BESS facilities
Proactively managing relationships, equipment issues, and plant outages to understand issues and drive to satisfactory resolution
Managing service agreements and contracts (in particular the LTSA, BESA, and PPA) to achieve optimal results for the SPC BESS fleet
Interpretation of operational data, assessing needs and implementing solutions that optimize the performance of SPC's BESS fleet

Understand the basics fundamentals of Sentinel and the forecasting model.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Required BS/BA or Equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 6 months dispatching/scheduling experience
SKILLS:
Required:
- MS Word, Excel - intermediate proficiency.
- MS Access, Outlook - basic proficiency.
- Influencing.
- Operator Qualified in accordance with Company Plan.
- Problem Solving.
Preferred:
- Spanish - fluent.
