Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a full-time Environmental Scientist with 0-3 years' experience for our Fort Washington, PA office to assist in our growing Natural Resource practice. The position will entail technical work focusing on natural resource surveys and documentation, with an emphasis on transportation and pipeline projects. The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team including environmental scientists, archaeologists, architectural historians, engineers, and planners. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform wetland delineations;

  • Assist with bog turtle surveys and habitat assessments;

  • Prepare Chapter 105/Section 404 permit applications and agency coordination;

  • Assist with the development of NEPA documents (CE, EA, and EIS documents);

  • Assist with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and report preparation;

  • Perform construction and post-construction inspection and monitoring of environmental best management practices;

  • Assist with stream surveys including geomorphic and watershed assessments

Working Conditions

The preferred candidate should enjoy working in the outdoors as required to complete job tasks. These physical requirements will include the ability to walk, stand, kneel, or bend for extended periods of time and be able to carry field equipment and supplies long distances. Field work may be conducted during any time of the year and may occur in a variety of weather and climate conditions, as needed. The Traffic Engineering Intern/Co-op will be asked to work closely with engineering employees to carry out an array of assigned tasks. The tasks will range from field work, data collection, revising existing engineering design drawings to design of small engineering projects. Other duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with problem-solving requiring basic theories and engineering fundamentals; utilizing computer programs to solve engineering problems; assisting with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized engineering projects, specification development or preparation, technical evaluation of equipment and materials, and maintaining accurate and current project documentation.

JMT is seeking a Design Engineer who will be part of a design team responsible for various transportation projects/tasks which utilizing knowledge of general highway and traffic engineering principles as well as practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform alternative studies

  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, as-builts, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

  • Perform design computations

  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools

  • Develop construction cost estimates

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction

  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Position summary: Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a part-time Archaeological Field Technician to assist with Phase I and Phase II archaeological investigations. Initial work includes 10-12 weeks on a Phase II project with work beginning in April. Additional work may be available after this project is complete. A bachelor's degree in anthropology or a related field and prior experience in all phases of archaeological investigation are required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States. Successful applicants will be considered for anticipated long-term projects in the region. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Lodging (individual hotel room) and per diem will be provided. Mileage to and from the project, project area, and drive time will also be compensated. Rate based on experience, and number of hours per week will be based on project workload.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The qualified candidate for this position will assist Project and Senior Archaeologists during Phase I-II field work in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and surrounding states. The candidate will aid in identifying any pre-contact or historic artifacts encountered during STP or test unit excavation. Preference will be given to candidates that will be available as on-call employees through the fall with the potential for continuous work based on available contracts.

Required Skills

Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures). Qualified candidates should possess, at minimum, a bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and have completed an accredited archaeological field school.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in CRM-based archaeological survey and/or excavation

  • Virginia and North Carolina experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology

  • Knowledge of historic/prehistoric material culture and artifact processing

  • Ability to navigate using compass and USGS topographic map
