Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.

A career-minded Highway Engineer, looking towards advancement, is needed to join JMT's Highways Team in its growing DC office. The selected candidate will become part of an established team of engineers working on exciting, high profile, complex, and impactful transportation projects in the DC metropolitan area. They will be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision.   • Design and oversee plans, estimates and specifications for compliance with DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) and other local agency guidelines and standards

  • Develop construction documents including all aspects of highway and site design (geometrics, details, ADA criteria, roadway profiles, utility design and coordination, pavement markings, and maintenance and protection of traffic, signage)

  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

  • Perform design computations

  • Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines

  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals

  • Prepare proposals as required

  • Attend meetings with clients

  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Required Skills
