The Role

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.

The Role

This person will be engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical as they apply to the supply base and material.

The Role

This position is for a senior project manager in support of the Propulsion Plant Monitoring and Control (PPMC) software integration group within the Gerald R. Ford Class Aircraft Carrier Propulsion Plant Planning Yard (PPPY) Control and Information Systems (CIS) department. Specifically, the candidate selected to fill this role will interface with internal and external customers in the creation and maintenance of ship various schedules, which track the planning, development, and testing for reactor plant ship modifications and ship alterations supporting the PPMC system. This involves regular communication and interaction with personnel across the PPPY and other NNS departments, software vendors, as well as NNL and NAVSEA customers in preparation for weekly and monthly status meetings/briefings.

Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Requires the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard commissioned ships, the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing ship checks, developing ship modification designs, and developing engineering drawings and/or 3D models in support of these efforts. Requires the ability to obtain and retain a security clearance and the ability to obtain and retain full or partial radiation worker qualifications. Requires short-duration work away from NNS in such areas as San Diego, CA, Bremerton, WA, Yokosuka, Japan or other areas of ship operations.

This position is for an electrical designer in the Propulsion Plant Engineering Activity (Department E83) supporting the maintenance, overhaul and modernization of CVN68 Class aircraft carrier propulsion plant. In addition to electrical work this position will need someone willing to learn piping work as well.

The Role

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is offering a $500 sign-on bonus to Welder Trainee hires. The sign-on bonus is for external new hires only. Current Newport News Shipbuilding employees are ineligible.

Newport News Shipbuilding has partnered with the Virginia Ship Repair Association and local Virginia community colleges and maritime training facilities to offer several course-to-hire Marine Trades Training (MTT) programs for individuals interested in learning a trade and working full-time for Newport News Shipbuilding. Courses are offered once a month with 8-10 students per class. The Welder Trainee program is offered at Paul D. Camp Community College (Suffolk, VA), Thomas Nelson Community College (Hampton, VA) and Tidewater Community College (Portsmouth, VA). This is a 3-week (UNPAID) program (120 hours), 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Monday thru Friday).

As a welder, you will first be qualified through the shipyards state of the art welding school. After completion of welding school, you will use a wide range of welding filler metals and welding processes to perform structural and/or pipe welds in all phases of ship construction. Welders perform tack, fillet, and full penetration welding on steel foundations and structural and pipe joints in production on aircraft carriers and submarines. This will be done using various welding processes including SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding).

The Role

The Role

Prepares and coordinates the plans and schedules for new or existing programs. Determines, monitors, and reviews costs, operational budgets and schedules, and manpower requirements. Supports and participates in negotiations with customer. Analyzes effects of projects upon various areas such as Engineering, Facilities, and the labor pool to determine the most practical and cost-efficient methods to obtain the required resources. Resolves proposal preparation problems and assesses the progress against established plans and parameters. The Role

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

This position is an entry-level position in our Maintenance Engineering group. The successful candidate will build maintenance strategies for production equipment with the intent of maximizing mechanical availability of the machinery. Tasks include creating Operator Daily Check Lists (ODCL) to guide the operator in any simple tasks to help take care of the machine; and creating Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRC) to guide our plant maintenance technicians in preventive maintenance tasks. Depending on the criticality of the equipment, there is also potential for creating condition-based maintenance plans and/or predictive maintenance strategies. In addition, the successful candidate will also assist in the evaluation of existing equipment and development of detailed business plans for asset renewal and replacement.

The Role

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is hiring Entry-Level Welders. No experience needed, WE TRAIN!

As a welder, you will first be qualified through the shipyards state of the art Welding School. After completion of Welding School, you will use a wide range of welding filler metals and welding processes to perform structural and/or pipe welds in all phases of ship construction. Welders perform tack, fillet, and full penetration welding on steel foundations and structural and pipe joints in production on aircraft carriers and submarines. This will be done using various welding processes including SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding). These welds are made in all positions using both manual and mechanized processes and will satisfy all nondestructive tests requirements (visual inspection, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic inspection, radiographic inspection). Welders will also receive additional training including certified visual inspection, fire watch, carbon arcing, and troubleshooting minor welding equipment problems.

The Role

Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports. The Role

The Trades division is seeking to expand the leadership team for New Carrier Construction. This Director position will partner with the existing team and work collaboratively to drive performance, improve proficiency and achieve execution objectives.

Responsible for the performance and supervision of trade superintendents, general foremen, foremen, and hourly craftsmen in their assigned area of responsibility to include safety of the workforce and the workplace, quality of work performed, efficiency and effectiveness of work being performed, supporting construction schedules and labor targets. Position oversees the assignment and direction of qualified trade superintendents, general foremen and foremen to effectively perform primary roles of production supervision and collaboration across trades, construction, and program management as well as Operations Trade Management to maximize aggregate performance. The Role

Plans, develops, and coordinates in-house product training programs for field support personnel and customers. Obtains information needed to prepare in-house training programs; prepares training materials; develops course content; determines methodology; and coordinates the development of training aids. HII is hiring a Military Op Analyst (Mission Coordinator) for the NITE Program. They will Support Large force Exercise (LFE) operations on the East Coast in accordance with contract requirements. Acts as a point of contact for Government operations personnel on all range functions supporting LFE. Coordinates all mission support from mission scenario development to live/virtual/constructive operational support to post-mission debrief and evaluation. Supports planning and coordination for agencies participating in or supporting training operations on the range complex. Attends pre-mission conferences for users and support groups.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.

  • Bachelor degree in STEM and/or management field

  • Ten (10) years of experience in military aviation (1310/1320) or surface warfare (1110) or military planning in one or more of the following areas: Electronic warfare; TAO/BWC/Etc.; Operational planning or exercise development and evaluation.

  • Five (5) years of DoD training range experience

  • Three (3) years of managerial experience with DoD efforts

Summary

This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The SkillBridge intern will train as a Configuration Analyst. The position plans and coordinates preparation of project documentation, such as engineering drawings, production specifications and schedules, and contract modifications, to ensure customer contract requirements are met. Reviews contract to determine documentation required for each phase of project, applying knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes. Analyzes proposed changes of product design to determine effect on overall product and system. Coordinates modification records for management control. Establishes change orders and prepares for change authorization and documentation by company and subcontractor. Summary

Job Description

Research, develop, and design electrical solutions for system integration of components, systems and equipment onboard US Navy Ships.

Advanced Knowledge of electrical or combat/C4I shipboard systems onboard US Navy Ships or general knowledge of several diverse disciplines.

  • Perform cognizant engineering liaison with other engineering disciplines and lead shipcheck and drawing development efforts.

  • Ability to independently coordinate drawing development efforts with Design, Engineering, and QA teams, resolving issues and answering questions as required.

  • Ability to work with waterfront personal and government technical POCs on resolving issues that arise during installations.

  • Identify, develop and coordinate drawing changes.

  • Review Government Furnished Information and coordinate with Engineering/Design team to validate technical information and insure proper design is accomplished.

  • Participate in Shipchecks as lead engineer to insure all issues are identified and resolved.

  • Act as an advisor/mentor to others

The Role

Researches, designs, develops, and/or modifies enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software. The Role

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
