The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) of Caterpillar has an opening for a Senior Product Support Field Engineer. The position will support complex technical product problem resolution with Caterpillar Dealers to ensure customers receive the product performance, reliability, durability, and availability expected as part of the Cat Brand Promise.
The incumbent is responsible for maintaining awareness and knowledge of large engines (3400, 3500, 3600, C27/32/175 engines series) product problems and support issues, working with various product groups and industry groups on a wide variety of large engine applications including Resource Industries, Electric Power, Oil and Gas, Marine, Locomotives, and Industrial.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Make regular visits to customer sites and dealer workshops to support large engines
Train and assist dealer personnel in troubleshooting engine issues
Enhance communications between factory, dealer, and customer
Assist dealer in engine rebuilding technical inquiries, training, or other engine related issues
Perform engine failure analysis where needed
Evaluate dealer and customer rebuild facility capabilities
Assist dealers with ICA and PCA implementation
Facilitate the return of Failed Parts to the factory for further analysis
Collect and analyze engine data in the field
CPI support: Identify, testing, and implementing of ICA's/PCA's
Assist dealers with understanding and implementation of Service Publications, TIB, Engine News, Service Magazines, and Service Letters
Provide dealer training based on the Field Engineering expertise - Knowledge Transfer
Support customers in identifying and improving engines O&O cost through implementation of best practices, rigorous condition monitoring and maintenance
Advise Industry Reps in evaluations of warranty and Goodwill claims decision-making by closely analyzing failure reports
Provide dealer and customer updates on product issues and progressive design updates
Work collectively with dealers and customers to drive site and application specific engine fleet life cycle optimization
Identify application and installation issues and communicate corrective actions
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors in a relevant engineering discipline or 15+ years in relevant progressively responsible experience
Thorough knowledge of reciprocating engines and their performance
Must be a proven self-starter
Ability to work with tight deadlines showing a sense of urgency
Technically astute
Shown to work well with others in a collaborative supportive manner
Willingness to perform hands on training and troubleshooting
Broad company knowledge and a strong understanding of dealer product support operations
Ability to adapt communications for a wide-ranging audience from dealer technicians to Caterpillar's management and Customer's management teams
Top Candidates will also have:
Excellent communication skills (including written, oral, electronic, and presentation skills)
Self-starting individual with high motivation to produce a high-quality product
Strong ability to apply engineering principles to quickly solve complex technical problems

The candidate will work closely with Business Unit Patent Attorneys within the candidate's assigned technology and product area to evaluate the patentability of innovations with specific attention to managing the preparation and filing of patent applications and office action responses globally. The Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) Account Manager position is responsible for providing direct sales management to IPSD 3rd Party customers who are independent machine manufacturers (OEMs).
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Develop and execute account strategies to promote customer value and ensure that customer expectations are exceeded and sales objectives achieved. Establish strong relationships across the OEM with key business decision makers and influencers. Identify and understand primary engine component decisions and remove barriers to sale. As a State Tax Senior Manager (internally known as Tax Manager) in the U.S. Tax Reporting & Analysis group, you will be responsible for U.S. state income tax matters for Caterpillar and its subsidiaries. This position manages the co-sourcing of state income tax returns, oversees the quarterly estimate and provision process, and manages and makes key decisions on state tax audits. The position also researches tax positions and advises on impacts of projects and/or initiatives.
The Chicago, Peoria, IL, or Dallas, TX based position will have in depth knowledge of U.S. state tax matters, including state modifications, nexus, interpretations of U.S. international inclusions between jurisdictions, and complexities of attribute realizability such as net operating losses and credits. As part of this responsibility, the role reviews, interprets, and makes recommendations and decisions with an understanding of the enterprise impact.
Job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Tax Compliance & Provision Management and Review:
Performs both detail and quality reviews for U.S. state income tax modifications, nexus, tax returns, quarterly estimates, and attribute realizability
Provides tax expertise on regulatory compliance and reporting requirements
Reviews material state income tax positions
Audit Management :
Leads U.S. Tax Reporting & Analysis team members in responding to information requests, analyzing impacts, and incorporating resolution into other processes for state audits and notices
Analyzes technical positions in state tax audit examinations, frequently working with examiners and authorities to resolve disputes
Legislative Activity
Monitors, analyzes and determines impact of critical proposed U.S. federal and state tax laws and regulations by applying Caterpillar facts
Guides U.S. Tax Reporting & Analysis team on modeling impacts of proposed/enacted tax law changes and implementing changes into compliance and provision processes
Tax Planning & Special Projects :
Applies tax research to optimize enterprise tax effects
Originates and sponsors process improvement projects which may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions
Understands outcomes and has an enterprise view when resolving issues or advising on projects
Team Coaching & Development :
Manages team deadlines across the tax calendar and lifecycle
Provides guidance and identifies development opportunities for tax staff
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's level degree related to Accounting, and approved certification (CPA/CMA), or equivalent experience in tax or accounting
6+ years of progressively responsible tax related experience at Big 4 public accounting firm and/or large multinational organization
4+ years of tax compliance experience in US state income tax compliance, including nexus review, state modifications, and tax return review.
3+ years of managing state income tax audits, including review of responses and driving to resolution
