Overview

The Business Governance team oversees policies and procedures governance and oversight, systems access and oversight, training, vendor management, and audits for Business Savings and Membership teams.

The Summer Associate will assist with projects and programs impacting the Business Member Experience. Work may include but is not limited to:

  • Process mapping

  • Research on policies and procedures

  • Research on laws and regulations

  • System requirement writing and system testing

  • Presentations

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2024 and ending in August 2024. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2024 or later.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation of key projects involving Member Experience with appropriate personnel within the division and/or across divisional lines; monitor progress of projects; address and resolve issues

  • Identify areas of improvement, develop and analyze new approaches, make recommendations, and implement approved solutions to improve operations, standards, and results

  • Review, analyze, and report on Business Solution's policy and procedural framework as directed

  • Assist with mitigating risk and remediating operational and regulatory vulnerabilities by leading compliance-related initiatives and remediations

  • Develop, lead, and recommend approval for the development of internal infrastructure to support risk mitigation improvements and prioritization of internal projects

Qualifications

  • Experience in researching, compiling, and documenting data, business processes, and workflow

  • Exposure to providing support in content design, storyboarding eLearning content, creating job aids, root cause/task analysis, etc.

  • Familiarity with automated systems

  • Experience in the financial industry and a good understanding of operational and regulatory risks and controls

  • Experience in drafting policies and procedures

  • Working knowledge of, and proficiency in, data analysis, reporting, forecasting, and operations research

  • Experience in managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals

As a member of the Baseline Analytics Data Engineering team, the Data Engineer Summer Associate will focus on creating new data pipelines that use powerful cloud tools to deliver data and insights to analysts at NFCU.

Potential Projects:

  • Build a data pipeline that combines data from our loan application systems with data on phone calls to create metrics used to improve member service.

  • Reduce cloud resource consumption by tuning existing processes.

Overview

The Real Estate Lending (REL) Mortgage & Equity Servicing teams service all mortgage and fixed equity loans as well as home equity lines of credit from the time the loans close until they pay off. Our mission is to build a trusted relationship while providing an exceptional servicing experience for our members on what is most likely their largest financial asset. Our teams include Account Servicing, Account Servicing Support, Escrow Servicing, and Financial & Investor Reporting.

Within Account Servicing, the Mortgage Payment Services team processes mortgage and equity loan payments and payoffs. They reverse payments and/or fees as needed and clear funds held in suspense. In addition, they perform daily balancing for automatic drafting and escrow suppression. Our goal is to provide the best member experience in a timely and accurate manner.

The Summer Associate will process mortgage and equity loan payments and payoffs, respond to a large variety of member inquiries regarding mortgage and equity loan servicing via phone or online

communication, and ensure General Accounting remits funds to investors. They will research and clear funds held in suspense, perform daily balancing for automatic drafting and escrow suppression, process Home Equity transactions, and reverse payments and/or fees as needed.

  • Reconcile ACH debit authorizations and journal vouchers to ensure the general ledger is updated, maintain registers and canceled check logs

  • Track recurring issues/problems and communicate findings to management Review manually/system generated checks for accuracy

  • Enter mortgage/equity payoffs into the system and balance payoff transactions

  • Research un-posted loan payments using automated systems

  • Receive/research returned checks from General Accounting to determine the correct amount applied to the mortgage, and reverse funds

  • Resolve discrepancies in general ledger accounts

  • Receive and process funds received via check, wire, etc. to pay off mortgages from origination, attorneys, title companies, and members

  • Reverse loan payments, reapply corrected payments, adjust interest, etc., on mortgage and equity loans

  • Determine payment check negotiability and return non-negotiable items to members

Overview

The Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) oversees technology portfolio investments at Navy Federal through fostering collaborative partnerships across the enterprise, facilitating guardrails and lean governance, ensuring due diligence in the analysis, approval, and funding of technology work, and supporting informed decision-making and governance of a value-focused enterprise portfolio. The EPMO Risk Team's focuses on supporting and encouraging a risk focused and value focused culture across our technology portfolio. In collaboration with EPMO Governance and our business unit and technology partners, we develop and manage definitions, standards, and practices that help to ensure that our leaders have deeper data-centered information about both the risks and the value propositions to drive decisions about our technology portfolio investments.

Technology improvements are key to achieving this goal, and the EPMO is central to improving the governing and funding processes. This internship will focus on building and improving the data and analytical capabilities and tools that facilitate the EPMO's governance responsibilities.

The Summer Associate will have the opportunity to work with executive leadership in the EPMO and elsewhere, and influence decision making at the corporate level. It is essential for the team member in this position to be comfortable briefing senior leaders, especially on data and quantitative insights, and to be a strong independent and innovative thinker.

The Summer Associate will likely be working with Navy Federal's Value Stream Team, an innovative organizational structure for governing and funding new technology work. This initiative is in its earliest phase, so the Summer Associate will be working to determine what data and analysis is needed to support Navy Federal's adoption of the structure, and how the governance team can improve senior leaders' ability to develop data driven insights and make decisions. Overview

The Credit Card Products Loyalty and Engagement team seeks to increase cardholder engagement and value by providing relevant offers, communication of benefits, and enhanced member experience. The Summer Associate will help support cardholder analytics, marketing campaigns, and leadership-facing reporting. The Summer Associate will help further strategic portfolio goals and initiatives within the lending department while developing strong analytical, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills.

The Summer Associate will work in a flexible hybrid manner and report to leadership at either our Vienna, VA or Pensacola, FL campus. Responsibilities will include analyzing data and competitive trends to identify areas of opportunity and then creating recommendations to influence decision-makers. Areas of focus may include creating personalized member engagement through segmentation, evaluating the highly competitive credit card landscape, identifying emerging patterns and trends to answer business questions, and developing models and visualizations to improve decision-making efficiency.

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2024 and ending in August 2024. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2024 or later.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with functional areas to develop and maintain performance metrics, measurements, methods, and targets

  • Obtain quantitative and qualitative data of business processes to analyze, determine, and promote data driven decisions

  • Analyze and evaluate competitor data and industry trends to understand current business unit competitive posture

  • Design and document dashboards, reports, and thresholds to alert business units to monitor business status and fluctuations

The Real Estate Lending (REL) Technology Services team is responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and channel agnostic member-centric back-end integration capabilities and support Real Estate Lending applications, accelerating the digital transformation, and empowering teams to innovate and deliver products and services through collaboration. The REL Technology Product Owner (TPO) leads three verticals with 40+ employees and consultants. A Technology Product Manager (TPM) is responsible for providing a complete product lifecycle management from design, analysis, build, manage, operate, and retire. REL Technology Services functions and delivers in a Scale Agile framework (SAFe) and is the technology owner of an extensive list of homegrown and COT solutions primarily developed in .NET, Java, MS Dynamics CRM, PEGA System, and other technologies.

The summer associate role will be as an ISD Technical Analyst supporting the REL Technology Services team.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with TPO for overall product board/backlog creation, maintenance, and management; orders backlog items to best achieve goals and optimize the value of each sprint
