-Interface with facility process partners and coordinate voice of customer to logistics team to improve processes

Essential Job Functions:

Job Duties

  • The incumbent, through the Quality Control staff, ensures the conformance to specifications of iron castings, purchased material, machined parts and assemblies in an assigned area. Inspection gages are also certified periodically to ensure valid inspection results. Decisions made by this position have significant impact on the quality reputation of company products. The incumbent interprets inspection policies and procedures and supervises the activities of bargaining unit personnel.

  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for overseeing the execution of processes, plans and tools that support metallurgical quality and global quality systems or related processes i.e. Cost of Poor Quality, APQP, PPAP, quality certifications, MQ11005 and MQ12005 etc. The incumbent must also ensure alignment to CPS (Caterpillar Production System) principles.

  • The incumbent is responsible for verifying that quality is being maintained throughout the metallurgical inspection processes. Works with Engineering, Operations and other functional areas in establishing audit procedures, audit frequencies and quality teams to insure customers are receiving a Caterpillar quality product.

  • Plan work and manage shop floor quality controllers. Establish schedule of product control and equipment control.

  • The position reports directly to a Quality or Engineering Manager and is typically responsible for metallurgical quality of cast iron engine components. The position supervises or manages a work unit of hourly employees where planning, scheduling, training, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required, and is responsible for area safety issues, personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.

  • The position's primary customers are internal. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems, which may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from existing solutions and by developing new ones. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. The role will also chair the Technology Advisory Board in support of the Energy & Transportation technology portfolio.

Responsible for the process of the annual refresh of the technology strategy (includes mega-trend analysis, competitive assessment, external partnership review, key technology and bold goal revisions), tracking and monitoring the enterprise leveraged New Technology Introduction (NTI) investment portfolio, delivering major technology demonstrations, and for select technology portfolios, transferring technologies into NPI programs to meet time, cost & quality targets, delivering technology programs aligned to product, market and customer needs while adhering to the Technology Readiness Level process, and leading technology integration events to integrate and align the technology strategy across the enterprise.

This position will develop standard processes for IC&S's technology portfolio management. This position will lead the IC&S technology portfolio managers in execution of the common processes and management of the exempt investment in technology. This role will support the Director of Innovation and Emerging Technology and the Chief Technology Officer in the execution of the Enterprise Technology Strategy.

This position works with different partners (including Chief Engineers, Product Managers, and Technology Managers) across the enterprise to communicate, deploy and execute the Enterprise Technology Strategy.

Decisions made in this role will affect Enterprise Technology Strategy direction, total product lines, major company processes and multiple technologies. Decisions will impact public perception of Caterpillar, the technology it uses and its applications, warranty, company strategy and partnerships with universities, research organizations and other external groups.

  • Technology adoption at machine point of sale (POS): Ensuring we provide the right solution leveraging our technology factory offering based on customer needs.

The Software Engineering Manager provides leadership in design, development and deployment of Caterpillar's state-of-the-art mobile applications for Cat dealers and customers. To be successful in this role, you must bring (Basic qualifications):
