Job Summary

Selected student(s) will gain utility knowledge in the following areas based upon the student's area of interest and business need including but not limited to:

  • Planning and designing electric transmission and distribution systems

  • Preparing detailed drawings

  • Supporting field operations in performing a variety of equipment and systems testing; supporting engineering studies and analysis related to electric, solar, and other projects

  • Monitoring the installation and operation of various utility-scale solar projects

  • Reviewing and supporting project schedules, budgets, cost estimates, and providing status reports.

  • Supporting restoration efforts following storms and other power outage events.

2023 spring and summer positions are planned in Columbia, Charleston, Summerville, Aiken and Beaufort.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Must have strong computer knowledge and skills with demonstrated ability to learn and utilize AutoCAD, GIS and Microsoft Office products.

  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Able to work independently and as a team.

  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.

  • Must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assigned work location and have reliable transportation.

  • Must be able to move about freely and perform field work.

  • Must be able to travel and work outside of normal business hours throughout the company service territory.

Education Requirements

Must be in the process of obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Job Summary

Dominion is seeking an energetic, highly motivated individual who is interested in joining our team in Surry, VA and Chesapeake, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation and monitoring of combustion turbines, generators and electric generation balance of plant equipment including start up and shut down of plant equipment.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Apply safe work practices, participate in the station's safety tagging, record maintenance, and help to ensure that plant operations are in compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements;

Perform various mechanical maintenance duties to include preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance to include replacement of filters, gaskets, couplings, pumps, rigging, and valve packing;

Handle related electrical maintenance duties to include the wiring and disconnection of motors, 125 VDC battery maintenance, use electrical test equipment, troubleshooting electrical switchgear up to 600 volts, and replacement of fuses and other various electrical components;

Make recommendations for improvement of plant performance and operational safety relevant to assigned area of responsibility;

Assist with the development and administration of specified packages for the initial and continual training of other plant personnel upon request;

May arrange for the transfer and/or receipt of fuel for plant operation;

Performing equipment walk-downs and following Equipment Inspection Guidelines;

Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Dominion Energy and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 50.

The starting pay rate is $37.07 per hour. This position works a combination shift of day shift or late evening shift of 8 hours (depending on station needs).

Successful candidate must be available to work overtime as needed, including weekends & holidays.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Strong preference for candidates who are currently licensed mechanics, or electricians.

REQUIRED:

  • Working knowledge of electric generating equipment and operations, to include the repair and maintenance of industrial electrical, turbine generators and/or plant equipment.

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience

  • OR 3 years of experience with an Associate degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or Specialized Technology

The successful candidate:

  • Must be able to work day or evening shift, and to be available to work overtime as needed, including weekends and holidays;

  • Strong preference for candidates who are currently licensed mechanics or electricians.

  • Preference for candidates who have fork lift and/or man-lift experience

  • A valid driver's license is required

Job Summary

*This position has a flexible work location and can be located in our Grayland (Richmond, VA), Herndon or Fisherville, VA offices.

This is an entry level position (T1) in the Electrical Equipment Technician series. The T1 position is the first year of an approximate 3-year training program, which requires participation in DE's formalized training program and on the job training. Certain competencies must be demonstrated to advance in the program. This position is responsible for equipment testing, troubleshooting equipment issues, commissioning and maintenance of substation, generation, and nuclear equipment.

The following objectives and courses must be completed to meet the requirements of this position. Candidate must complete classroom training and demonstrate competency with the following job specific courses:

STEP 1 # Dominion /Safety/Departmental Expectations with Introductory courses:

  • Departmental Safety expectations

  • Pre-Job Briefing for Human Performance Processes

The position will perform tasks that support DE's service territory, to include:

  • Supporting LTC (load tap changer) maintenance, commissioning, and issue resolution

  • Testing and maintenance of various substation equipment (batteries, transformers, cables, breakers)

  • Provide testing support to generation and nuclear facilities, which will require out of town travel

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Required Experience: 0-2 years of directly related experience

  • Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications

  • Prefer knowledge of manufacturer and company equipment installation, maintenance guidelines and electrical test equipment;

  • Familiar with programmable logic controllers (PLC's) and electrical control wiring;

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Abilities: Demonstrate basic knowledge of electrical circuits and components; ability to work under pressure; ability to carry heavy test equipment (with assistance as needed);

Job Summary

There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

Position has responsibility for independently evaluating assigned projects to determine environmental permitting requirements, obtaining environmental permits for projects, providing environmental compliance support, and coordinating with Dominion Energy facilities and projects.   • Independently review projects under consideration for development or acquisition by Dominion Energy for compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations and effectively communicate action items and compliance gaps to development team and management.

  • Independently determine environmental permit applicability for assigned projects with specific knowledge of Section 404/401, Section 7, Section 106, Erosion and Sediment Control, and Storm water Management Programs;

  • Prepare applications and secure environmental permits or clearances required for construction;

  • Communication of environmental compliance requirements to development, project, field teams;

  • Technical assistance to sites/projects for environmental compliance;

  • Interpretation of environmental permits and regulations to ensure that compliance dates and requirements are met;

  • Independent problem analysis and development of compliance strategies;

  • Preparing and conducting training;

  • Writing and editing reports related to environmental programs;

  • Communication and coordination with regulatory agency representatives, negotiate permit conditions, represent Dominion Energy during regulatory inspections, and other regulatory meetings;

  • Oversight, tracking, and assignment of compliance and permitting tasks for multiple facilities/projects

  • Oversight and technical direction of contractors and consultants including preparation of scopes of work, purchase requisitions, permit applications, permit support materials, and invoice approval;

  • Represents company before regulatory agencies, industry groups, and the public on environmental issues

  • Adherence to Dominion Energy environmental policy, guidance, and work practice

  • Adherence to Dominion Energy safety rules and safety performance expectations; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

Position is based in Richmond, Virginia. Ability for overnight travel up to two nights to support projects in Dominion's Energy infrastructure footprint may be required. Target travel percentage is 10%, but may be as much as 25% in a particular quarter depending on business need. License or ability to obtain a license to operate a motor vehicle is required. Ability to work in both office setting and at industrial sites is required. Ability to work outdoors in potential weather extremes (heat, cold) is required. Hybrid work schedule (days in office, days remote).

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Environmental Specialist II: Minimum of 3 or more years work experience with environmental regulatory compliance and/or permitting

Environmental Specialist III : Minimum of 5 or more years work experience with environmental regulatory compliance and/or permitting

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:

  • Experience with permits related to wetlands (including threatened and endangered species and cultural and historical resource coordination), erosion and sediment control, and or storm water management experience preferred.

  • License or ability to obtain a license to operate a motor vehicle is required.

  • Ability to work in both office setting and at industrial sites is required.

  • Ability to work outdoors in potential weather extremes (heat, cold) is required.

  • Regulatory agency experience or experience representing an organization with regulatory agencies is a plus.

  • Environmental permitting experience in multiple states is a plus, particularly in VA, WV, NC and SC.

  • Experience overseeing consultants and strong negotiation skills are a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage details, multiple tasks, and hard deadlines is essential.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and ability to effectively work in team environment are essential.

  • Effective computer skills (MS office) and ability to work with electronic record management systems are essential.

Job Summary

There are multiple positions that will be filled at the Engineer II, Engineer III, Engineering Technical Specialist II, or Engineering Technical Specialist III level, commensurate with the successful candidates knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and education.

This will be responsible for the development of protection and control design engineering packages for Dominion's Electric Transmission and Electric Distribution Substations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and modify protection and control design documents and drawings for substation projects including: relay functional drawings, logic diagrams, elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, communications diagrams, relay panel arrangement drawings, and bills of material

  • Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to physical substation engineers, protective relaying engineers, communications engineers, transmission line engineers, material coordinators, panel wiring shop, and field technicians in order to fully develop the protection and control design package

  • Assist project management teams and conceptual engineering teams for the development of the scope of work and design requirements for substation engineering projects

  • Assist less experienced engineers and technicians by answering questions related to design packages and providing technical guidance on protection schemes

  • Independently develop system protection design package for complex projects using applicable standards

Job Summary

Senior Instructor (Nuclear)

Develop instructional materials and conduct training for various technical training programs at the Company's nuclear power stations. Job Summary

This position will report to the Manager - Nuclear Projects SLR (Subsequent Licensing Renewal). The assigned area of responsibility will be managed to ensure compliance with legal requirements, and in accordance with established company policies and procedures. The selected candidate will provide leadership and direction to the SLR Construction Support team that will support extending the operating life of Surry Power Station for safe, cost effective and efficient nuclear power station operations for decades to come.

In addition, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

- Responsible for oversight and supervision of Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) project work activities at the station, including overseeing contract supervisors and their staff.

- Supervise, coordinate, and direct construction tasks involving project planning/coordination, design change packages, rigging, scaffolding, electrical, mechanical, insulation material handling, painting and facility maintenance support for the station.

- Ensure work is completed in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with standards, plans and specifications.

- Direct and coordinate daily construction activities for compliance with safety, Human Performance tools, ALARA, quality standards, schedules, and budget.

- Track and prepare project budgets.

- Interface with other station departments to ensure efficient coordination of work activities while adhering to the station's work management processes and procedures.

- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and design changes.

- Review assigned projects for constructability, methodology and test sequencing.

- Provide input for construction status and provide status updates as necessary both verbally and written.

- Provide technical assistance in implementing plant modifications.

- Provide project team communications in a confident manner during station leadership meetings that may include the Plant Health Steering Committee, Outage Integration Team meetings, Challenge Review Boards, Project Funding Review Board meetings and Executive Risk Review Board meetings.

- Facilitate the hiring and administration of construction support personnel.

This intern position will provide direct support to the Engineering Analytics & Modeling (EA&M) group within Power Delivery - Electric Transmission. This recently formed group within Electric Transmission supports a broad spectrum of transformational and innovative projects with a focus on solving problems through grid telemetry data analytics and custom developed software tools. Products and services provided by the EA&M team serve applications across the entire Electric Transmission organization.

The intern will work as part the EA&M group participating in the development of an array of analytical tools utilizing high-resolution grid telemetry such as synchrophasor data. Support activities include evaluation of various methodologies from the literature, prototyping high-potential methodologies using Dominion's synchrophasor data and data analytics platform, communicating the significance of the methodology and the results to Dominion leadership, and making recommendations for future analytic work.

This position will provide real-life experience in the application of multi-domain skills including engineering principles, power systems fundamentals, signal processing, software development and architecture, as well as written and verbal communication of deep technical concepts through business cases. The intern will work alongside numerous experienced engineers, researchers, and developers throughout the course of the internship. This position is being posted as an Air Emissions Monitoring Specialist I or Air Emissions Monitoring Specialist II

This is the first or second level of a three-level series which provides technical support for continuous emissions measurement systems (CEMS) configuration and support to ensure or improve compliance with all air quality regulations at a power generation facility (e.g. coal fired plant). Performs basic and/or routine assignments and tasks under the direct supervision of the supervisor or work leader, which are designed to develop and enhance technical or engineering expertise, knowledge and abilities for progression to the next level. Under the supervision of a supervisor or work leader, this entry level position applies information gathered from quality assurance and environmental tests, performs engineering or technical calculations, analysis, research and design to further develop professional knowledge and abilities and to provide technical support in designated company area or specialized function. This may include analyzing and evaluating systems, equipment, regulatory requirements, and programs for assurance that they are modified, operated, and maintained in accordance with Company policy, and regulatory requirements. Prepares the Continuous Monitoring System (CMS) audit report for submission. With guidance, applies basic knowledge of environmental regulations to conduct the annual span and range evaluation of CEMS, calculates the annual capacity factors for peaking unit determination, reviews data for errors, and loads data into the Emissions Collection and Monitoring Plan System (ECMPS) for management's review, prior to submission to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Provides regulatory reporting assistance, and drafts technical reports for CMS events as needed.

This role does not function as a technician in modifying, operating or maintaining CEMS. Limited exercise of judgment is required on detail of work. Assists specialists with report analysis and preparation, and data management. May assist in problem analysis and developing compliance strategies, working as an individual contributor, or as part of a team. Will be required to learn how to lead small group knowledge sessions on regulatory data reviews and technical reporting requirements, applying basic understanding and knowledge of environmental federal and state regulations pertaining to plant emissions.

For the Air Emissions Monitoring Specialist I the knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:

  • Demonstrates strong computer skills and knowledge and use of various software programs (0 - 3 years), with sufficient knowledge, technical expertise and work experience to perform essential duties of the job using EPA's ECMPS and CEMS DAHS software. Basic knowledge of CEMS operation, maintenance and technical design applications. Basic working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations specific to air emissions.

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge and understanding of the design and operation of moderate to complex systems and equipment such as PLC systems and/or Data Controllers.

  • Working knowledge in the operation and application of personal computers and software programs (Microsoft Office) Skilled in applying analytical skills to address finding and assist in the development of compliance strategies. Must understand basic routine CEMS testing pass/fail criteria.

  • Working knowledge in the operation and application of personal computers and software programs (Microsoft Office)

Job Summary

A successful candidate will be joining the Electric Distribution Grid Planning team. This role will be selected as Engineer I, II or III in the Engineer series based on years of directly related experience and other qualifications. Successful incumbent will be able to perform difficult, complex, and time sensitive power engineering tasks in a fast-paced environment requiring sense of urgency, innovative thinking, ability to prioritize work, complete multiple engineering requests simultaneously, and thorough knowledge of electric distribution Design, Planning, Reliability, Standards, Operations and/or Substation or Transmission engineering. This role will also communicate directly with multiple data center customers on a regular basis to discuss ongoing data center projects. Successful candidate will coordinate major engineering, contractual and financial segments of complex projects to meet customer timelines and engineering objectives. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, contracts, and criteria. Devises new and innovative approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering principles ensuring compliance with design criteria and industry/company standards.

At Engineer III level of proficiency within this classification, incumbents are expected to provide technical expertise, team leadership, guidance to less experienced engineers, intensive and diversified knowledge of electric T&D engineering principles and practices to all projects. May serve as a technical expert on engineering related legal and regulatory issues to outside entities. Performs other related duties and storm related roles as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

0-3 years of directly related engineering experience is needed to qualify for the Engineer I

3-5 years of directly related engineering experience is needed to qualify for the Engineer II

5+ years of directly related engineering experience is needed to qualify for the Engineer III

  • Full knowledge of electric T&D engineering theories, standards and principles with focus on electric distribution and substation;

  • Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines;

  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead;

  • Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);

  • Strong personal computer skills;

  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems;

  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;

  • In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs such as Synergy, DMI, ArcFM, Microsoft Office, Work Manager, and various substation engineering portals and programs

  • Equally effective working independently or in team environment;

  • Proven decision making skills;

  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks;

  • Strong planning, organizational and project management skills.

Education Requirements

Education Level:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering with concentration in Power Engineering and Professionals Engineering License

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Job Summary

Dominion's Power Generation Business Unit seeks a senior engineer with a controls and instrumentation background to support the Power Generation fleet (non-nuclear) with technical leadership and hands on Industrial Control System (ICS) expertise. This position is located at Dominion Energy's Thomas F. Farrell II Building, 600 E. Canal Street, Richmond, Virginia.

The successful candidate will be able to provide the support noted below in accordance with standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements, for the Power Generation fleet and its auxiliaries:

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in control system engineering, design, implementation, programming, configuration, commissioning, testing and troubleshooting in support of Power Station Industrial Control Systems along with all associated control system devices, computers, communications, networks, endpoint devices, and instrumentation. (ICS e.g.: Distributed Control Systems -DCS-, Programmable Logic Controller systems -PLC-, and SCADA)

  • Provide technical expertise in consultation, evaluation, recommendation, and development or review of specifications, work scopes, bid proposals, test procedures, alarm response procedures, commissioning plans, and vendor reports.

  • Provide hands on control system support and expertise for power generation and auxiliary power systems, including digital devices or systems with communications interface to control systems (e.g. inverters, drives, and protection relays for electrical power systems).

  • Manage/Lead projects and perform multiple responsibilities of controls engineering support in parallel and oversee vendor/contractor support when needed.

  • Provide support and leadership to meet NERC regulatory and ICS Cyber Security requirements as well as other regulatory compliance requirements, projects, initiatives, and activities relative to industrial controls and control systems.

  • Investigate technologies that will improve plant operation and performance (e.g. reliability, efficiency, environmental) and technologies that will assist with control system maintenance and analysis.

  • Perform due diligence for plant acquisition and evaluation of control system and instrumentation specifications for projects and new plant construction.

  • Control Systems may include (but not limited to): Emerson, GE, ABB, Allen-Bradley, Modicon, Wonderware, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Job Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of professional relevant engineering experience (post-school) including but not limited to directly related Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) experience working on power stations or related heavy industrial applications (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications)

  • Strong Experience with Industrial Control Systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and SCADA systems and associated control system devices, computers, communications, networks, endpoint devices, and instrumentation.

  • In-depth knowledge of industry advances in control system monitoring, testing and analysis of control equipment; and controls theory.

  • Strong knowledge and experience of electrical and electronics theory.

  • Strong technical leadership skills and strong verbal/written communication skills.

  • Experience and foundation with Ethernet network switches and serial digital communications, including third party datalink protocols (Modbus, DNP, AB-PLC).

  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and assignments concurrently and manage deadlines.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to successfully work both independently and in a team environment to identify errors, pinpoint root causes, and devise solutions with minimal oversight.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Strong knowledge and experience of power plant controls, steam turbine control systems, combustion turbine control systems, balance of plant control systems, solar power generation control systems, and battery storage control systems.

  • Experience with control loop tuning

  • Strong computer skills foundation as relates to operating systems, controls system software, servers, networks, and communications software.

  • Knowledge, skills and experience will determine salary level
